Can't Access Remote Management
« on: January 17, 2009, 11:39:09 PM »

I've setup my new DIR-655.  I can network my laptop and a wireless camera and can access the camera remotely just fine.

but I can't seem to get the remote management function to work.  I have tried the std port 8080 and tried a different one that worked fine with my prior router.  so I know it is not an issue with my ISP.

I have set it up in the tools/admin section to enable remote management and set the port number.  but I can't access it.  any thoughts on what I am missing?

thanks,

A portforward on your internet modem. If you need to access the riouter from the outside you first need to  go through the internet modem. Have you checked the correct settings?

I have checked the seetings I have port forwarding set for a webcam and it works fine.  I have set the remote management to a port I have used with another router's remote management (which worked fine) but it doesn't work with this router.  I tried a separate port forwarding rule in the port forwarding section, but it gave me an error, saying that port conflicts that said "Remote Admin Port conflict".

So that tells me the router is recognizing the port but is not allowing the access to the manager remotely.

This is not a dyndns issue, since I can access the router remotely using my IP address currently assigned by my ISP.  I can access my webcam.  so this is not an issue with the ISP or with the internet modem.  I can get to the webcam fine (so I know the router port forwarding is working fine and I know mu IP address gets me to the router).

this issue seems to be that the setup (on the tools/admin screen) when set to allow remote access and using the default or another port, doesn't seem to work.

The internet modem also has remote management on a pre set port, so using the same port will get you this error.

So set remote management on the router to port 8081, enable it, create a portforward/virtual server for that port on your internet modem and it should work unless the internet router has a strict firewall set (see log).

Can you telnet the remote management port?

I hope this thread is still alive....

I'm having the same problem.  Cannot access the router by remote admin. I set the port to 8282

Router Version 1.32NA

Sits directly behind a modem.

Disabled SPI

TCP and UDP at ENDPOINT INDEPENDENT

I can ping the WAN address eventhough I did not enable it.

Another weird thing is that, the IP i get from my router WAN Address is different from when I try to get my IP from an online IP tracker like whatismyipaddress.com.  Upon checking the address given by this site, it is actually a proxy.  Could this be causing the problem?  Is there a workaround for this?

Please help, this is driving me nuts

I hope the thread is alive too!

I've got a similar problem: Can't access the router from WAN to remote administer it.

Firmware Vers. 1.32NA

The modem is Westell A90-210014-04.  Doesn't appear to be anything except a bridge i.e. doesn't block anything.

Used Port 8080 for remote admin, didn't try other port numbers

Also tried with disabled SPI and with TCP and UDP at ENDPOINT INDEPENDENT

Also I can ping the WAN address although I enabled ping and did not try to ping without enabling it.

Unlike dadee, the IP listed in the status menu (the actual router WAN IP address)is not a proxy.

Sigh......

I also have this problem except I discovered that I can access the WAN IP Admin page from OUTSIDE my home network. I called tech support to see what they had to say and he logged into my router just fine. I do not understand what is going on here! I can't connect to my own IP address. Very weird.\

Addition: I have also tried messing with every setting on it to try and figure it out. I added the MAC address to the Allow List for both my PC and the Router, and still nothing. DLINK doesn't seem to have any idea about this. Maybe time for a firmware upgrade?
