Remote Playback on 2nd PC connected directly to Camera LAN
« on: March 31, 2011, 03:55:02 AM »

In response to my question about Playback on the LAN connected to the Cameras in the WishList post Mackerel wrote.....

"Ad 1. Remote Playback over network is currently ALREADY possible without having another Console. Remote Playback service needs to be enabled on Console end. Only need to install the Playback on remote and when selecting footage on remote just select the server after configuring on remote the Remote Playback Site Management on the remote machine. You can add/test hosts."

I want to make sure I understand this.  Are you suggesting that I setup the 2nd Networked PC as if it was a Web PC even though it's directly connected to the camera LAN?  (Page 111 of the Users Manual for Ver 3.11)  Didn't know I could do that.

Or, I just noticed that there's a "Playback System" tab Under the "Programs/D-ViewCam" Tab.  I never saw that before since the D-ViewCam application boots automatically after I install the app & every time I power-up the PC.  So I've never used the Programs tabs before.  Not complaining, just trying to figure this out......

Please advise.  8)

You have the option to playback your footage recorded on one PC (console) from another one, where you only need to install the playback functionality. If you activate the remote playback service on the console pc (required for this to happen), the only thing you need to do on the other (playback) pc is, when selecting the source/reels for playback (that "Search Database" option top right), and in the selection click on the house itself, you can add console-pc's via IP-address, username and password [remember password]. You can then select same footage as on console.
You could have multiple console-pc's, and multiple playback pc's, or any combination thereof...   :-X

2 drawbacks: You cannot delete footage on any other machine than console, and you will use same network bandwidth for playback as recording is done over (unless one access is wired, the other wireless).

Hope this is a little clearer than mud.
