Gamefuel and PS3
« on: March 31, 2011, 09:35:17 PM »

What do you put for:

Local Port Range
Remote IP Range
Remote Port Range

Does it vary for each individual?

Did you review the PS gamefuel sticky?

I did, but it doesn't say how to get those things I listed.  :(  The XBOX one lists the port info but not the PS3 one.

Or am I supposed to use those port and IP ranges shown by Chris?

What do you put for:

Local Port Range> Zero(0)
Remote IP Range> 255.255.255.255
Remote Port Range 65535

There has been some mention that using these port value may lead to problems as these values are global. They are open to any and all. However I haven't seen any issue since I found the ones for the XBL. A fellow member on here managed to find specific Remote IP address ranges for XBL. Not sure what they would be for PS. Lately I've been using a more specific Remote port ranges for XBL, mainly 3074 and 53 so gamefuel has been set up differently. Eventually I'm going to post this information as well. If Chris or someone else could narrow down the ports/remote addresses that PS uses, then you could probably use more specific gamefuel rules.

Thanks Furry.  Yeah, I'm clueless about ports.  I'm assuming they are an entry/exit for information for the system?

All I know is that you don't want any to be visible to hackers!   :P :o ;D

I can't leave them blank or the 4500 won't save the info.  I just don't know what to put in there.

Yes they could be considered entry and exit points on the network.

For now, use local/remote port range From box: 0 and To box 65535. Use the BOTH option in the drop down box.

for remote IP range From box: 0.0.0.0 and To box: 255.255.255.255

Actually, how many game consoles do you have?
If you only have one game console then the PS sticky will work great for the one console. Where it gets interesting is with 2 or more.  ::)

It is unnecessary to use a specific port for your console. It is much easier and in long term better to utilize it the way I have it, you will know for a fact that all games and program running on the ps3 will get their fair share of ports. Plus what are the dangers? There are basically none, only danger I could think of is someone spamming your ps3 with random packets but then again who will know you and attack you? Back on track just read the ps sticky as Furry mentioned, see any error or issue’s let me know.  Also by setting a static Ip address and setting it on the GameFuel rule only that IP address (PS3) will be able to open those ports, so not all ports will be open at once. Well in theory they will be open, but the Ps3 will not be utilizing all of them. Also you have UPnP that will handle the port closures and openings.

Actually, how many game consoles do you have?
If you only have one game console then the PS sticky will work great for the one console. Where it gets interesting is with 2 or more.  ::)

Just repeat my process for the second console, they should both work because they both are opening the ports from two different network cards and utilizing two different IP addresses which in term mean they won't be confused. But now if you were using one ps3 and utilizing let's say two games and they both want to open let's say port 155 they will be conflicted because how will they know which packet belongs to what game? Hope that makes sense. Let's just say if the above is incorrect than all you have to do is go on your router via 192.168.0.1 and then Navigate to Advance > Advance Network > Multicast Streams and Enable "Multicast Streams" Problems should now be resolved.

Thanks Furry.  Yeah, I'm clueless about ports.  I'm assuming they are an entry/exit for information for the system?

You can indeed leave them blank..... That's why "protocol:" is set to "any" which means any value the ps3 recalls will be given to it by the router in a range of 0 to 65535. Those values are ranges from the lowest to the highest and are given by the router and not me. You may set them higher but come on what type of game developers etc will use a port higher than 65535. Hope I am making sense, have a great day....

I may start work on an upgraded version of my Ps sticky, I believe the current one does not have all the solutions that certain people are looking for. Sorry for double posting.

Agreed, we need to probably update both PS and XBL stickies to reflect the use of 1 game console vs 2 or more.

Sorry, guys, busy day.  Yes, we actually have 3 XBOXes, a wii and a PS3.  At any one time, 3 could be on but only one will be playing multiplayer (me).

OK, so I can put 0-65535?  That's what I was wondering.

ETA: OK, cool, I set it up exactly as Chris has it listed but with my own PS3's IP address.

Thanks, dudes!  I have my XBOX as 1st priority and the PS3 as 2nd.  They will never be on at the same time, but I do stream Netflix to either one or the other.

I suppose all three xbox are working fine, even when they are all on at any given time? I still don't understand why people buy those x systems.....
