wireless causes router to reboot
« on: April 03, 2011, 12:27:46 PM »

I just got a new dlink dcs-932l camera and added it to the wireless network and now my router is rebooting every 2-10 minutes. Before adding the camera it was up for a nice stable 28 days. Are there any settings i need to change? On the latest 1.35 firmware. Dir655 Revision A2

I think i found the fix. Advanced, Advanced wireless and checking extra wireless protection seems to be the fix.

Might want to check the WiFi modes and change from mixed to a single mode G or Mixed G and N if you have devices that support N. No need to broadcast the other modes, A/B if your not using them.

I have always set them at g+n only. I turn off auto scan channel too. The router defintly lasts alot longer now, but still reboots probably every 8 hours or so.

What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any other WiFi in the area?
Any Cordless house phones?

Check the logs of the router and see if it tells of anything during this time frame?
Does the reboot effect your connection to the Internet?

I have a laptop, mac mini and ipod touch that connect to the wireless. Never had a problem until I added the dcs-932l camera.   I was able to stay up non stop (28 days). Now that the camera is added the reboots affect my internet connection. I updated firmware and started settings from scratch and same results. I am going to try and plug the camera directly into the network and see if it still reboots then I know if its wireless or the constant connection to mydlink.com that the camera does.

So what happens if you don't use the Camera to test the WiFi?

Does the router reset if you use single mode G to test with the camera?

Set your devices for static IP reservation on the router and auto obtain IP address on the devices...

I am testing it right now with wireless n only, then i will try wireless g. I do use static reservations through dhcp for every device.

Yes, I set all my devices up for static reserved IPs on the router, ease of managing and they all have there own IP addresses that don't change.

I was able to get it stable with wireless g only was up 24 hours before I turned back on g +n mode. This time I change RTS threshold to 2100 and beacon to 80 and no reboots. Will see how long this lasts.

Kewl, let us know. Someone mentioned that possibly changing the Band Width from Auto to 20 or to 40 helps. Not sure if this would or not. Could test it.

When i had the 20/40 auto it was rebooting a lot more, switched it to 20 and it was better. I just tried out the wireless g/n again and reboots, so far looks like wireless g is the only non rebooting. I am guessing its an issue with the camera because wireless n was fine before introducing it. I guess will wait for a firmware update for that and hope dlink fixes it.

I don't think Dlink would fix that unless the problem is caused by there FW. If the router worked well before the camera and now it doesn't, I presume it could be a camera issue possibly. Ya it should effect the router however sounds like something is going on that the camera causes. Can you take this camera to a friends or neighbors and see how it interacts on there WiFi system?
