Hi. I have a DIR615. I would like to set up a wireless network from DIR615 connect using Ethernet cable to a PC using a Mobile Broadband USB dongle to online. Purpose is to enable my ipad wifi to connect using wireless without having to purchase a mobile wireless device.  Is that possible? Searched through the Internet but hope to have a step-by-step guide on setting up.

the 615 router needs a LAN connection from a DSL or CABLE or FIOS modem type of hardware to get internet and use it.

Probably no, but before I say definatly no, let me understand what your trying to do.

Ipad > Router > WAN to PC > PC to USB Broadband adapter

or

Ipad > Router > USB on router to Broadband adapter

or

Router > LAN to PC > PC USB adapter to Ipad

All three are Technically possible, they are all very hard, and B is downright implausible.

Harry: Thanks for stating the possibility. I need exactly what you stated in 1st method:
Ipad > Router > To PC > PC online using USB Broadband Adapter (WIMAX to be exact)

Ok, what my THEORY is, (and no, I have never tried this) would be:

Ipad > Wifi > Router > Static IP WAN > Ethernet on PC

Install USB Broadband Adapter.

Set the the router to a static IP(IP,gateway,dns will come later)

Set the NIC to Static IP

Bridge Broadband connection and NIC.

Set up Internet Connection Sharing between the 2

Questions and problems I have/see:
1. Have you installed the broadband adapter yet and is that working to get the desktop online? What protocal does it use?
2. What Operating System do you use?
3. Have you configured the wireless part of the network yet and gotten the Ipad to connect?
4. DNS might be tricky. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't work..just feels like its going to be diffacult.
5. Does the Ipad itself have the option to install the adapter via USB?
6. Do you have to run specail software on PC to use the adapter? If so, I have a feeling it may be specailly set up to stop something like this from working.

Anyone else have expertese in Internet Connection Sharing? This was on Microsoft, but I am talking real life experiance.

Thanks for the reply.

1. I have installed the adapter and able to get online. How to check the protocol? I saw in the Properties of the Connection. It has something like "Yes Go Protocol Driver". "Yes Go" is the device name, also the ISP is "Yes".

2. I am currently using Windows 7 Professional.

3. Not configured yet. Coz the router is new, was thinking if not able to setup then I will just sell it.

5. iPad doesn't have the option.

6. Yes. It comes with a Connection Manager software. Not sure whether it will stop this kind of Internet Sharing or not though.

I think it's gonna to be tough, or impossible. If it's too much hassle then I will just give it a skip and go for ADSL broadband.

Yea, I would say its going to be tough. If I had a adapter myself and I was able to play around with it, I could probably get it to work, but without a testing platform and by proxy, would probably just be a waste of your time if a standard ADSL connection is possible. Not to mention the connection would probably be s*** compared all the work it would require. If the ADSL thing falls through and I will take a crack at it. I found a couple walk throughs for adapter > Desktop > wifi > 2nd desktop and can't imagine it would be that different.

Wow.. You found a couple walkthrough? How's it? Mind sharing? Anyhow, I hope to learn more as well. It's possible to get the ADSL connection here in Malaysia, but by doing so I will have to dump my Wimax connection (dongle) away..
