dap1522 AP Mode - scenarios & advantages?

Hi everyone!

I have a DAP-1522 that I no longer need as a network bridge. But I do have some network wireless connectivity issues between basement and upstairs.

What advantages would I get running a wire to front office upstairs to set 1522 up in AP mode? As a repeater will it help the wireless devices upstairs see the network better, stay connected or increase network speed? One pc upstairs is a Linksys wireless xrs-pre-n, the other a wireless-g, both connected to an xrs pre-n router in basement office.

Failing the above, would I get better performance and connectivity if I replaced the Linksys xrs with the 1522 in the basement to connect wireless devices to the network?
