Trouble connecting to internet with DSL-526B
« on: April 08, 2011, 01:40:01 AM »

I recently bought a duplicate Modem Router and am having trouble connecting it through my D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router. It appears to be pretty much the same as my original yet it will not connect to the internet and the install freezes.

ADSL/2+ Ethernet/USB Modem Router DSL-526B

Both are exactly the same, and as I go through the D-Link installation it freezes after I click next for the LAN icon lighting up. The furthest I can get is the POWER, LAN and DSL icons lighting up, but the Internet icon does not. I am sure this is not an internet problem as I can connect 100% fine with my old modem router. Also when connecting the new modem router I cannot access 195.168.1.1 and it also appears to be different from my current router. I was able to access it once but not again.

It is recommended that you bridge the DSL modem to that you can effectively connect and use the 615 router and it's features. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause issues.

You need to refer to the DSL-520B product manual and review how to Bridge the modem. These are the same UI web pages for the routers so this document should work for the 526 I believe. I notice they don't have a specific page for the 526, yet. You'll need to follow the instructions on how to Bridge the 526. Once thats done, you'll need to enter in the PPPoE DSL account information into the 615 routers web page under Setup/Internet/Manual. Look in the first section and select the drop down to bring up the PPPoE selection. This will give you boxes to input the PPPoE account information. Ensure ALWAYS ON is selcted too.

Once this is entered in, power off the DSL modem and the router. Power on the DSL modem and let it sync, about a min. Power on the DSL modem. You should have internet now.

Let us know how it goes.

Gee I'm sorry for asking for so much but I can't seem to find a guide anywhere. Think you could reference me to the DSL-520B manual online somewhere which has the method for bridging?
Also, I want to be able to use both Modems and interchange them. Is that possible?

http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DSL-520B
Select the Additonal Resourses button then Product Manual. This will have you download a PDF file for the 520B.

You can only use one modem at a time with the 615 router. You can change them out if you need to.

So if I set this one up I should still be able to interchange the modems without having to change settings every time?

I am curious why you want to change them?

Shouldn't if the PPPoE account information is the same for each modem.
