Can a D'Link representative provide a realistic firmware release date?
 (even if it's just the month or fiscal quarter)

I was told that it would happen in 2011 and that's the best answer I could get out of D-Link.  Although, I was willing to bet a premium beer that the firmware would not be released in 2011 with D-Link Multimedia (Technical Engineer for D-Link); however, I could not get him to commit.  To be fair I don't know whether not putting his beer where his mouth is was due to geographical restraints, company policy, the law, or his uncertainty on being able to win the bet...maybe a combination of all of them.

Actually, we were all told - I followed that public thread as well.

I'd say the bet fell through due to corporate policy, international trade law, and D'Link's lack of licensure to engage in domestic and international gambling (you didn't think of that last one, did you!)

1.04 went out for worldwide (the last beta posted) as official minus the US. Simple reasoning is that it was lacking support for AFT drives. We are working on that now and then 1.04 will launch for US.

Will the AFT support still maintain the 2TB ceiling for HDD size?

Yes it will still be limited to 2TB.

Is AFT the only difference between Beta 3 and the "official" version?

In other words, if beta 3's working for us, should we quit obsessively looking for an official 1.04, or are there other bug fixes?

All bug fixes were listed in the last beta that made it into official 1.04. So if you have the latest beta you should be set. If you need AFT then there will be an additional version before official launch in the US.

Are you saying that AFT will be the only new addition/fix since the last firmware release in May 2010?

Not surprised, but disappointed. I am (was?) hopeful that there would be additional substantive changes and fixes considering almost a full year has gone by since the last update.

No it is not the release from May. My apologies for not updating the beta. There was more changes than what is listed in build 03. The release build worldwide is build 07.

As of right now I will most likely push to release this firmware for the masses in North America and then follow it up with an additional firmware to cover AFT drives. Resources right now are not allowing me to add AFT into this version and I do not want to postpone it too long for a single feature. The new firmware will most likely be up mid next week (minus AFT support).

Thank you for the status update.  I can't speak for everyone, but I'm looking forward to the latest beta release.

I submitted the firmware for posting but the web dev team did not get around to it. Most likely be up monday or tuesday when we return from the weekend.
