DIR-825 requires reset to keep Shareport working
« on: April 14, 2011, 09:38:14 PM »

Shareport recognizes the printer only after resetting the DIR-825 router. I don't know if this is a Shareport issue or an issue with the DIR-825 disabling the USB port.

This happens after there is no PC connected to the router for a number of hours such as overnight. I have 1 laptop and 1 desktop running Win 7 64-bit and 1 laptop running Win 7 32-bit. The desktop is connected directly to the router and the laptops connect via wifi. All PCs work perfectly when the DIR-825 is reset.

This isn't a big issue but it's extremely annoying and shouldn't happen. I use a Cisco WAG320 in my office that has similar USB functionality and this never happens.

D-Link Router: DIR-825
FW Version: 1.13NA
Operating System: Win 7 32 and 64 bit
SharePort Version: 3.1.0 R1 (SXUPTP Driver : 3.4.6.0)

What ISP service do you have? DSL or cable?
What ISP modem do you have? Stand alone or built in router?
If DSL, it's recommended to bridge the DSL modem. Also If DSL, make sure the routers PPPoE information is correct and that ALWAYS ON is enabled.

I would try this, do a factory reset of the router.
Set all connected devices to static Reserved IP addresses on the router.
Make sure all other devices are auto obtain IP addressing.
Set WiFi mode from Mixed to Single mode G or Mixed G and N if you have any N supported devices.
Ensure your Primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresess are auto filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual.
Ensure DNS relay is enabled.
Disable Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Disable WISH if you have this option.
Disable uPNP under Advanced/Advanced network. Try with it disabled and enabled. See what happens.

Let us know how it goes.

What kind of printer? I had an HP printer that had some auto-timeout feature that caused this exact same problem on a different router. Disabling the auto-timeout resolved it permanently.
