Broadcasting Question
« on: April 17, 2011, 12:06:14 PM »

Hello

I am going to be a Freshman in college next year and I wanted to know if there are ways I could decrease the broadcasting range of the DIR-655 (to keep it as contained to my room as possible).

I plan on disabling SSID broadcast, but would using only 1 or no antennas yield this desired effect of lowered range?  Are there features in the router management that can lower the range?

Thanks!

Better check with the college, most don't allow routers hooked into their network.

I do not currently own the router.  That is why I am asking ehre (if it can be done) before I make the investment :)

You can go to the emulator on the DLink web site and check out what the router has. Look under Support/Emulators

You can reduce the output power, but not sure what range it will have.

If you haven't spent the money yet, check with the college before you do.  If they don't allow it no sense in buying one.
