Confused on DNS-320 and HDs
« on: April 17, 2011, 03:12:05 PM »

I just wanted to be sure prior to ordering my DNS-320 and hard drives.  I'm looking at the Western Digital Caviar Green WD15EARS 1.5TB HDs for a raid 1 setup.  I was looking in the past at the DNS-321, which seemed to have problems with the EARS drives.  Is thin NOT an issue with the DNS-320 ?  These drives should work OK?

TIA,
  Gene

Green drives work fine on the new NAS devices.

Check the compatibility list first, before you buy the wrong HD!

Desktop / Consumer RAID Environments - WD Caviar Green Hard Drives are tested and recommended for use in consumer-type RAID applications (RAID-0 /RAID-1).  from WD website.

using WD20EARS 2TB (x2) in raid 0.. workingn fine atm.. The specific problem I read about is with a raid 1 more than 0.. But who knows.. I got the WDs for $79 ea and Ill stick them in my computers if there is a prob..  There are also some post about using jumper pins 7-8 (i think) to emulate the older format types)..

D-Links technical helpdesk didn't want to help me as I was using (without realising) an incompatible WD EARS HD :(. Just that you are aware.
