Date Problem; Disconnecting Problem. Related?
« on: April 24, 2011, 02:08:41 PM »

I've been having two problems with my DIR-615 since day one.  The first one is, by itself, not really a problem, but I wonder if it's creating the other issue, which IS a problem.

1. The system date is perpetually off (behind) by around a month on the router.  For example, today is 4/24, but the router thinks it is 3/22.  I've tried everything I can think of to change the date (i.e., checking the box to make it use the computer's system date, etc.), and while such fixes work temporarily, the router inevitably always reverts back to an incorrect date.  And  of course this also changes the "expiration" dates.

2. Certain devices, most notably my iPhone 2 (original model), my Livio internet radio, and my Sony Blu-Ray player, lose wireless connectivity around once a week.  I can fix this by rebooting the router, but it's getting annoying.  The odd thing is that I NEVER lose connectivity on my desktop computer, which also connects wirelessly.  In fact, I even reboot from the D-Link connection on the desktop.  My Sony Dash and my laptop rarely lose connectivity either.  To clarify, with the iPhone, it's showing that it's connected, but only the first two lines (IP Address and Subnet Mask) are filled in.  The others (Routher, DNS, Search Domains) are blank.  And  I don't get the wireless "fan" symbol indicating it's connected.  When all five lines are filled, I get full connectivity.

Any thoughts? I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I don't know that much about wireless connections.  Thanks in advance for any help!

What wireless modes are you using? Try Single mode G or Mixed G and N?
Try changing from auto channel scan to manual and start at Chl 11.
Any other WiFi in the area? Any cordless house phones?
Setup Static IP addresses on the router for all devices. Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Ensure Primary and 2ndary DNS addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual
What ISP service do you have? DSL or Cable?
What ISP modem do you have? Stand alone or built in router?

Thank very much for the info; unfortunately I think some of it is a little over my head.  Here's what I can tell you -- I have a cable modem; it's a stand-alone (rented from the cable company.)

Where and  how do I tell if I'm using auto channel can, and how do I start at 11?
I don't know how to tell which mode I'm using.
There are other wi-fi networks that show up when I scan (from neighbors). I also have cordless phones.
How do you set up Static IP addresses on the router?

Thanks again ...

Log into the routers web page and got to Setup/Wireless/Manual for wireless settings and such.
To setup static reserved IP addresses for each device, go to Setup/Network Settings.
