DNS-321 NAS loosing network connection
« on: April 26, 2011, 01:25:28 PM »

I have a DNS-321 NAS with 2x2TB WD RE4 drives in RAID 1 formatted to ext2. Both the HDD’s are brand new. The NAS firmware rev is 1.03.
The NAS uses a static IP and is connected over GIGABIT Ethernet with Jumbo frames set to 7000.
The NAS volume is mapped as a network drive on the W7 machine.

When I am copying my music collection roughly about 40G, it keeps dropping the connection every few minutes. Each file is average 5~6 MB.
I also tried playing an another mp3 file from the NAS while simultaneously copying, Playback stops when the copy fails.

I switched the router and connected both the NAS and the client on the same switch no luck.
I turned off the power management on the NAS, again no difference.

Initially it did copy about few Gigs of data over 30 minutes without dropping connection, where the average file was about 50KB.

Anyone has any suggestion on what I can try next.

Disable jumbo frames.. see what happens.. for jumbo frames to work, both devices must have jumbo frames enabled.. You could check your nic's config also.. In my exp alot of online games, applications do not like jumbo frames, so alot of nics on the mother board have them disabled by default..
