My Alienware mx15 wont connect to my DGL-4500
« on: April 26, 2011, 09:41:43 PM »

Hello,

Ever since i got my Alienware mx15 back in Dec. 2010 it wont stay connected to my router. Sometimes it connects and works fine then all of a sudden it wont work. sometimes it drops the connection and sometimes it says its connected but the internet wont work/is really slow or it will have the yellow exclamation mark. I tried changing different settings and nothing has helped so far. I thought my router was bad so I took my laptop over to my friends house who also has a DGL-4500 and I have the same problem there are well. My iphone,ps3 and my other laptop all connect fine wirelessly. If anyone has any suggestions what could be wrong i would appreciate it. Thanks for the help.

I would first recommend reinstall your drivers for your wireless adapter, that might solve the issues.

Tried looking for the specs. Found these but they don't give a wireless chipset or capability. Dug around some more and looks like its Ndraft, which might have some difficulty with N. So I would try either setting the 4500 to G only, 2.4, 20Hz or trying to force your wireless adapter to G only. If possible, the later is better since then it still allows you to use N elsewhere on your network. If this doesn't work, or if you do not know how to do what I mentioned, let me know, and I will reply with more info/other ideas.

Another thing to check would be the power settings for the network card in your pc's operating system. Can't tell you how many times I've run into the fact that the pc is set to power off when it considers it "not in use".

Any update on this?  Did the channel switch prove to be a reliable fix?
