THE POSSIBLE FIX ALL FOR RANDOM DROPS

If your like me you have been getting random drops you know who you are. After another round on Dlink support I got a guy who seemed to know right what the problem was.

Your cable modem and Router are using the same ip!
He had me change my router ip to 192.168.5.1

So far so good. Will keep you posted!

Hi,

Most cable modems have no login IP like a DSL PPPoE modem....

The dropouts people see are pointed to the router, not the internet link....

If its like my old netgear WG-624T (SuperG ??) router that had serious overheating issues, people did stuff like put external fans on the router and all kinds of mods....  Also, some folks felt the power bricks were flaky causing internal power problems....  Some others even put heat sinks on the chips inside the router....

I have my 655 sitting on a laptop cooler and using the USB port to power the fans.  Keeps it cool and I have been using it since 2007.

Hi,
I am curious as to the model and firmware version in your router assuming that it is working properly.  Mine is rev B, firmware 2.00 and two in a row fail the exact same way when streamin movies etc.
My son has an older model with firmware 1.34 and his works well and he is on the same roadrunner network that I am on. He just lives about 1/2 mile away.

I have an A2 running the 1.35NA firmware.  Its on 24/7 but I don't have any special setups, no Virtual server, no port fowards.

Don't feel bad norbs...my 5 hrs of success didn't last long either.  I started to get drop connection again last night and today my globe (solid blue now) stopped blinking again.  I am having a TWC (RoadRunner) tech come out this Tuesday.  I will see what he/she has to say about our situation.

Hopefully I can provide some information soon.  Have a great weekend.   :)

I had the same problem.  I disabled the uPnP in the router software which corrected the problem.  Two of my computers were using the same IP address without my knowledge.  To re-enable the uPnP you should assign IP address to all your computers which is also done in the router software.   Your computers should be set at "Obtain the IP Address Automatically".  This should fix the dropping problem.
