Cannot view my website inside my network....
« on: April 28, 2011, 11:35:36 AM »

Hello All and Greetings
Can someone help me out. I have a DIR655 and I used to get to see my website from within my network. After a recent crash, I can now only see my website from outside my network. Much appreciated if you can direct me to the right path
James :)

Hi James,

Paint a picture of your Network. How are you connected? A recent crash? What crashed?

A have a Dell Server, one laptop (wireless) and two desktops connected to the DIR655. The Dell Server runs my website (www.jmzcons.com) which can only be viewed if I was outside of the network. My old Linksys router died and that is when I purchased this dlink router. I guess that is when I was not able to view my website. Pls help

Hi James,

Did you remember to remove any Static IP Addresses on the computers themselves and use DHCP Reserve IP Addresses? Remember the IP Address Range is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199.

Don't forget to set the Port Forwarding or Virtual Server Rules.

Hi James,

Something you left out of the picture.

How are you connected to the Internet? Dial-Up, DSL, Cable or FIOS? What is the Brand and Model Number of the Modem?

Hi James,

When you had installed the D-Link DIR-655 Router to replace the Linksys, which crashed, did you remove all power from the Cable Modem, which you still haven't gave out?

I have a D-LInk DNS-323 with FTP activated. With a Cable Modem connected to the D-Link Router, I was able to use FileZilla to test within my Home Network. Now with FIOS and a Router plugged into another Router, I can't. Only access and test outside of the Home Network. This is similar to your complaint.

Have you had Cogeco test the Cable Modem after the LinkSys Crash?

Is your web site being hosted internally from your home network. So everyone else can access the web site however when internal on one of your PCs you can't? I presume you can access other sites?

Yes, my website is hosted from my server and is part of the network. Others can view my website but I cannot view my website from within the network unless I am outside like at another building or another network, I can access my network

Any chance of you connecting a switch behind the router then connecting the internal PCs to the switch. Seems odd that everyone externally can connect however you can't while your on the same network internally.

What are your Firewall settings set at currently. I don't think this would effect internal, however could.
