Can I run my USB printer to the 4500?
« on: April 29, 2011, 06:57:17 AM »

I see that there's a USB port on the back of the 4500.  Can I run my laser printer to that USB port so it will be a networked printer?

How do I get the network to recognize it if I can.

I plugged it in but can't seem to get it to print.   :'( :(

You have to install the DLink Shareport SW on each PC to make that happen.

Thanks Robear.  I installed shareport and it says it's connected but I still can't print.  Boo!

Eh, heard stories that printers connected to these ports don't work well. I hope someone else can offer up some help. Does the printer happen to have a LAN Port by chance?

Yeah, I think this printer may be incompatible.

No, unfortunately, no LAN port, just USB.

I did get this but it didn't seem to work, either.  Maybe it's not configured correctly.  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833130079&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Network+-+Print/Scanner+Server-_-Zonet+Technologies++Inc.-_-33130079

UPDATE:  I got the Zonet print server working!  All is good!

Nice find man...should keep this in mind as a good work around for people trying to work with printers with USB only connections and putting it on the LAN. NICE man.  ;)

Was the set up easy? Curious. Can reference this to others as a work around for the Shareport thing.

It looked straightforward but didn't seem to "take" initially.

The instructions were clear but even though the software said it installed correctly and I got no errors, printing wouldn't work.

But after some rebooting and tinkering it seemed to come together and work.

Sorry, haven't been on the forum for a few days.

OK, what I had to do with the Zonet ZPW4000 was to change the settings from B/G/N to just "G" and then back to B/G/N.  After I do that, it connects.

The most active and helpful guys here are Furry, Hard Harry and Look Into My Eyes.  I've been chatting with them for about 3 or 4 months now, but they're the only "old timers" here, Nicole.

Hey Kargo27 thank you for those nice words :) you are also a helpful guy.

I know, here I am again, off and on!

The weird thing about that Zonet print server is that there is no setting for just mixed G and N.  It includes B.  So, it's B/G/N.  I can do just G or just B but not just N.

No problem, bro!

Oh, I dunno about me being helpful.  I ask more questions than I answer, but thanks!
