Should I update the firmware to 2.0+ as I had no problems before and was seriously thinking of getting a netgear 37AV.... but did not find out about the 2.0+ firmware. What does that firmware do? Will it 'cure' the wireless disconnection problems. Also I have never got 300mbs connection even with the dlink adapters I got..

Version 2 firmware is for the B hardware only.  Try the 1.35 firmware for all A hardware models.

Does that solve any of the connectivity problems?

Can't tell you for sure, I haven't had any issues with my 655.  Sometimes is the wireless client that drops stuff and not just the router.
