Admin password limitations?
« on: May 07, 2011, 06:25:01 PM »

Any documentation on admin password length limitations, or allowable characters?  I'm having "issues" with long passwords that contain special characters.  HW:B1  SW:2.05NA.

I saw someplace here that the HTML was truncating at 15 characters, but I don't see any MAXLENGTH in the HTML source on 2.05NA.

It's fun and all doing a hard reset and restoring the config, but, well, you know...

Using Firefox, tried 63 characters initially (a horrid randomly generated thing), then I tried a shorter one, about 17 characters, just letters/numbers.

I couldn't get anything more than a rudimentary password to work.  After having to re-load the factory settings and restore the configuration about 10 times (literally), I decided to check here.

Frustrating...

So only non complex passwords work? Up to how many characters have you tried?

The one I use is 13 characters.  I got tired of having to reset the router and restore configurations, so I wanted to check here.  Folks need the connection reliable during the week, so I can only "play" on weekends.

I understand...LOL. Ya, haven't looked much into PW length. Mines only 7 Chars. Good enough for where I'm at I guess. I think it just depends on maybe where your at and what your concerns are. Like I said, if your the only person with access to the router, make it fairly easy for you to use and remember. Doesn't really need to be complex unless your noticing odd things happening or if you feel that someone is really trying to break in. In all actuality, if someone on the inside wanted in, all they needed to do is to do a full reset of the router. Trying to get in from the out side is much more hard to do IMO.
