Hello, I am using a D-Link DIR-655 REV B (Firmware: 2.00NA) wireless router. The problem I keep having is that the internet will randomly disconnect and it happens to all my computers. I am not sure if it is the router or the modem that is causing this.

The internet service provider that I am using is Time Warner Cable and the modem is an ARRIS TM502G.

I have tried resetting the modem and the internet seems to come back. Same thing happens if I try to reset the router instead of the modem. I have also tried restoring the router to factory default settings and that didn't seem to work.

I am not sure what is causing the internet to drop.

Seen other routers have issues with this cable modem. This modem seems to be a router/VoIP and internet modem.
I would try to put the 655 router into the cable modems DMZ if it has that option and see how that works.

I'm not sure how to go about that...

I also have been having trouble trying to port forward so I can set up a minecraft server but it hasn't been successful.

I will try to do some research later.

My previous router was a D-Link DIR-615 and I didn't have any problems with it until a couple months ago when the router kept disconnecting.

port forwarding probably wont work because of having 2 routers on the same network. Your running into NAT issues here. Could be why the 615 wasn't working.

I had the 615 for almost 2 years and I didn't have any issues with it until January this year (I don't use the 615 any more). I didn't try port forwarding until I got the 655. I think we had the arris tm502g modem for about a year.

The internet seems to disconnect less now since I restored my router to factory settings. Is there anyway I can port forward my minecraft server though?

I found out how to access the modem by going to 192.168.100.1 and all I got is status information.

There is no modem or router options that you can tell? Not sure if the modem has any user options or not. If not then having either this modem or the 655 router will not be compatible as getting NAT to a single option is preferred. No DMZ options?

As far as I can tell there are no user settings I can access on the modem. They do it on purpose I think.

I don't know about DMZ or how to do it.

Do I do this on the wireless router? There are some settings under ADVANCED>FIREWALL SETTINGS.

NO, the DMZ needs to be set up on the Modem and since you cant find this option, probably no going to work.

I think the connection problems were on time warners end.

So far my internet connection hasn't dropped and it has almost been 2 weeks. 

I still wish I could get port forwarding to work though.

Yes! I got port forwarding to work on my router! Apparently there was an issue on time warner cables end which is fixed now.

So now my minecraft server works!
