Hi.  I want to open MORE than the 24 ports that the router configuration allows (DIR-615  Hardware Version: C2    Firmware Version: 3.03RU)?

How can I do this?

0 - 65535 for a global port opening.

Have you tried using Team Viewer to remote in to there PC?
I use it all the time here. Doesn't need any port forwarding.

For working with ports and such, you would be interested in Virtual Server, Port Forwarding and Application rules on the router.

Hi mate.  Thanks once again for posting.  I *could* have a look thorugh myself using teamviewer - but would prefer to know beforehand what has to be done.

I downloaded the http://static.highspeedbackbone.net/pdf/D-Link-DIR-615-Manual.pdf - but could not come across any reference to "global port opening"


Can you point me in the right direction??

There really is not information on global port forwarding. Its just a term I use here to state that if using 0-65535 ports settings, thats encompasses ALL ports thus global ports would be in use.

For Team Viewer you don't need to set anything up. Just load or run the application and it will work well.

You can use shorter ranges too.

"This feature allows you to enter ports in various formats including, Port Ranges (100-150), Individual Ports (80, 68, 888), or Mixed (1020-5000, 689). "

So not only can you enter port ranges, but you can enter multiple individual ports per line, to a almost unlimited degree. The limitation would be to how many devices you can port forward to, and I think that limits at 24. But if you have more then 24 devices connected to your router, you probably need more then a 60$ router. Heh.

Hi lads.  Thanks for your mails. I am at work - and can't use teamviewer to check myself.  However I have passed on this info - and my buddy says that he has 24 fields which will only allow him to enter individual ports. 

I'm caught in between here - but does the above sound likely (ie. insofar as you can recognise that he may be in a different section to what you have in mind?  He's not trying to port forward - he's trying to allow incoming traffic access....

NB.  |One vital piece of info I have failed to mention.   The opening up of each port needs to be done specifically to a particular ip address.  ie. can't have a range of ports being accessable to one machine - just need a single port available to each particular machine on the network.

Well, 24 network devices yes.  Point taken - and this is just a stop gap - but the link you've provided shows the ability to add more than 24 devices??

No, the link I provided was just a emulator for the DIR-615, so you could see what they were seeing onsite.

The 24 network limitation is set in the firmware. I think it has to do with the way NAT is configured and the limitation of the flash.

But perhaps I am giving the wrong answer because were not talking about the same question. What exactly are you trying to do? Give me some real life examples? What are you trying to get to work?

I'm not sure - I will suggest it ...in the meantime, if anyone can confirm either way, don't hesitate to post here.  However, even if that is possible, at what point would each stream of traffic be segregated and routed correctly ie. how would incoming traffic on port X know to be routed to device y?

Its possible that this router might not be best suited for your needs either. 

It's been perfect up until now - just need to squeeze another couple of months out of it before moving to professional kit.  I won't bore anyone with the reasons why it's not possible to do that straight away....
