Cant connect through Windows Explorer
« on: May 14, 2011, 07:47:30 AM »

I got this thing set up a few days ago. Got the folders set the way I wanted. Transfered files to it through Windows explorer with no problems.

Today I decide to set some more folders up and transfer more files and no matter what I do its now asking me for a username and password to access the drive.

I have tried all of the users including the admin and it acts like its the wrong password even though the passwords work to connect to the box by its ip address.

Can someone tell me what this could be and how to fix it.

Seem here. Researched for hours for a solution, nothing worked. Then removed the user profiles and that windows password thing was gone. It seems linked with the shares set? Would love finding a solution to this very annoying issue...

What user profiles ? From DNS-320 ?
I don't remember setting any profiles in mine.

In that case I guess that windows logon screen, is not related to user profiles. I just noticed when I took off the user profile I created, I did not get that windows logon screen anymore. But since I need user profiles, it is not a solution to me. Maybe it was coincidence. When I have some more time, I'll test the same scenario again. But since I'm a starter, I hope that some experts can help us out here? Btw, I'm using W7 as well.

I am getting crazy with this error.
Basically when I try to access the share form one of my computers I get a login window , no matter what I put there the access is denied.
When i look in the DNS-320 log I see the errors as "CIFS: Authentication for user Admin has failed " or "CIFS: Authentication for user Guest has failed"

This ONLY happens from the PC I used to setup the NAS, my other two computers have no problem accessing the files and there is no autentification required..

Please help

I had similar problem accessing via a wifi enabled netbook, I posted in another thread what worked for me, was to check the network adapter settings, selecting properties of the adapter being used, then selecting IPv4, properties, advanced, WINS tab, in WINS page at bottom select "enable NetBIOS over TCP/ICP" instead of the default radio button, apply setting, repeat for the IPv6 protocol for the adapter, save and exit, and that worked for me..!!

Hope it helps..!!

Got it fixed for me.
Basically if your account is named Admin or Administrator you're out of luck.
Once you change the user name to anything else it works like a charm.

Use Netplwiz.exe in W7 premium to change the ACTUAL name , not the one you see when you login... yes confusing why there are two names for the account but this is Microsoft for you :)....

I noticed this same problem.  My user account name for my computers is admin.  I did discover that you can enter "guest" as the username and leave the password blank, and it will let you in.  I have no users or groups defined and I tried reseting the network shares which did not fix anything.  I have currently added a group called "workgroup" to see if that bypasses the password request prompt.

Here's an update - no that didn't do anything.  I have tried adding a new user account, and sure enough there's no problem connecting to the NAS.  If your user account is admin, the password thing seems to want to pop up.

It sounds like the easiest method is to create a new user account named something other than admin.

Or you can manually map the network drive and enter \\dlinknas\Volume_1 where "dlinknas" is the name of your unit.  Enter username guest and a blank password, and make sure the checkbox remember my login details is checked.
