ARGH, First, let me explain I am not a novice, I am very computer literate, and have been fluently using them since my $4000 computer which had 25MB of ram and Windows 3.1 Operating system...

I have the Dlink DIR-655, Rev-A, HW 1.35NA Wireless Router

Before you ask, I have reset the router to factory defaults, and reinstalled the latest firmware twice, most recently after trying everything else I could think of.

I have Cable internet, ALWAYS using wireless, NEVER using wired except for the router installs, which worked just fine until I switched from my old D-Link router to this 655 one a few weeks ago.

Now, very frequently, I will open ANY webpage, and the internet will lag, 5, sometimes 10 or 15 seconds and then suddenly it will work properly for a while... only to happen again a little while later - completely randomly it seems.

I wired the router to the computer to check to see if the lagging still happened, and everything was fine.

I am using a 1-year old Dell laptop, using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit, and the Network Adapter is Intel WIFI Link 5300 AGN with the most up to date driver confirmed.  Under the Advanced Tab for the Laptop's Network Adapter, the settings are as follows:

802.11n CHannel Width for band 2.4 - Value: 20MHz Only
802.11n CHannel Width for band 2.4 - Value: Auto
802.11n Mode - Value: Enabled
There are a number of other settings which I am confident are not relevant, but happy to provide
The last setting is: Wireless Mode - Value: 6. 802.11a/b/g

In the DLink Configuration, the relevant settings are:
802.11 Mode: Mixed 802.11N and 802.11G
Wireless Channel is on 10, so as not to use the most common "11"
Channel Width Auto 20/40MHz
DNS Relay Enabled
DHCP Server Enabled
Range: 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199
DHCP Reservation enabled and laptop is only computer on network and also has reserved DHCP
UPNP On
QOS is Off as is Traffic Shaping
Dynamic DNS is off
My Mac Address was captured by my computer
Subnet is 255.255.255.0
LAN IP is 192.168.0.1 and LAN Computer IP is 192.168.0.100 (note: 100, not 1)

Under WAN, the Primary DNS Server numbers are showing and the Secondary DNS Server numbers are showing as 0.0.0.0

McAffee Anti-Virus is up to date and shows no viruses, nor to the Dlink Logs - McAffee Firewall is turned off, Enable SPI in Dlink Settings is turned on.

Please allow me to reiterate, this problem only occurred when I switched routers recently, the old DlInk router I had never had this issue.  And I am using a completely different network name with this new router to avoid any conflicts there.  And this problem does NOT occur when hardwiring the laptop to the router directly, it only happens via wireless.

Storage of the router is fine, it is in the same spot as the old router was, not to hot, not too cold, it didn't eat any metal for breakfast and there are no MRI machines within 10 miles.

If you have any thoughts or questions, please let me know - this is driving me CRAZY!  I've read all the forum responses on here (well 12 pages of them anyway) and have yet to find anything solutions that have worked for me.

Thanks for your help!

This part has me confused:

Quote
802.11n CHannel Width for band 2.4 - Value: 20MHz Only
802.11n CHannel Width for band 2.4 - Value: Auto

are these the options that are available - if so - you want auto not 20 Only
also the wireless mode at the end of the laptop settings, is there a n N only option?

On the router try setting that to N only too.
If you only have the one machine using the router, reduce your DHCP address range, I run my address range from .2 to .11

use a program like INSSIDER to check for any interference in you area from other wireless broadcasts

RE:

Yes, if you go to the Device Manager, and right click on Properties for the Network Adapter, these are options available under the Advanced Tab.  I just changed the band 2.4 to Auto, so we'll see if that helps then.

I can't set the router to N because although there are no other laptops, there is an older iPhone that accesses the WiFi here and I am not sure it would handle "N" Technology.

Re: Wireless Mode, I thought the same thing.  Unfortuantely, the only options are:

1. 802.11a
2. 802.11b
3. 802.11g
4. 802.11 b/g
5. 802.11 a/g
6. 802.11 a/b/g

Nothing for N under Wireless Settings, although as I mentioned, one of the other Settings was "802.11N Mode: Enabled" and there were the other two 802.11N settings, both now on Auto.

Thanks for your time!  This is a confusing one it seems, especially since it seems a lot of other people are experiencing the same lag/stalling issue I am.
