Hey everyone, sorry to bring back this old post but I am surprise to have found this post after all this time I have my phone... I am having this excessive drain issue only when I am at home. When I am anywhere else, I get +20hours of usage with my Galaxy S6 but when I am at home, I get 8 or 9 hours before the battery is totally drained.

I see that there was a fix for samsung devices in one of the firmware, I run 1.37na and I am starting to wonder if there is something to do with the 655 rather than my phone ?

Anyone have found something new since the last post ? any updates on what you did to make the battery life better on your phone vs your 655 ?

After reading this post yesterday, I turn off the wifi on my phone and surprise, I have 22h estimated total battery life on top of two hours of talk time...

Make sure WMM is enabled Advanced > Advanced Wireless. WMM is mainly for latency, but it has power saving functions built in. If already on, try disabling and see if any different.

Really? If so, that could be the problem. Why disable the ability to disable a feature? AFAIK WMM is not a prerequisite for anything else, so this doesn't make sense to me. Is it part of WISH(wireless QoS)? But even that doesn't make sense, since I can still disable WMM on the emulator with WISH enabled.

I think WMM is enabled by default and can't be disabled. D-Link has always grayed this feature out on some of the older model routers.

I am located in north america, hardware A1/A2 v1.37na.

I confirm that turning off my wifi in my house on my phone, I get +30 hours of usage. When wifi is turned on I get 7 to 9 hours of usage. When I am on my work wifi, I get +30h of usage so there is definitively something going on with the wifi in my 655...

One of my friend has a DIR868L and when I am there the whole day, I get +30h of usage on my phone.

I am using Mixed n and g mode with auto channel scan activated. Encryption is WPA2 only with AES. WMM, short GI and Extra Wireless Protection is ON.

TX power is high, beacon at 100, RTS and fragmentation threshold are at 2346, DTIM is 1.

What wireless modes is the 868L using? Match your 655 setting with the 868L settings...

I am not sure about the 868L config, I will check this out next time I visit my friend.

I will try to turn OFF Extra Wireless Protection and set single mode N with WPA2 and AES only and test. I cannot force to 40MHz only though, only auto 20/40 or 20.

Ok, try both 20Mhz and Auto 20/40Mhz and see.
Then you might test single mode G, WPA2 and TPIK since G mode doesn't support AES.

Ok I've tried to set it at "n" only and you were right, there is 40MHz only there. I still get high battery drain but it seems less than before, today I got 14h.

I don't know why but the battery usage come for the "android operating system" that take 33% of the battery. When I turn the wifi off and only use LTE, the "android operating system" get like 8% and I get 30h+ of battery life which is awesome.

It seems I am not quite there yet... The DIR868L has the following config :

Security Mode: WPA-Personal
802.11 Mode: Mixed 802.11g/n
Wi-Fi Channel:11
Transmission Power: High
Channel Width: Auto 20/40 MHz
HT20/40 Coexistence: Enabled

That's all, nothing under "advanced" menu for wifi... this is pretty much what I had before on my 655.

I was at a customer yesterday all day on a Luxul system and I got 27h of battery life and "android operating system" is using 12% that day.

I'll recommend that you either turn OFF the wifi radio on the 655 and connect up a new wireless AP to use in place of the 655s wireless radios, or replace the router with something newer. You can keep the 655 as the main host router if you want to and connect up any newer kind of wireless AP to the 655. You could get you a used DIR-868L and do this to connect to the 655:

Ive done this many times when I connect up older routers and want to use newer wireless APs.

Just seems like the wireless on older 655s maybe having a bad time handling newer Android devices. This would be a FW issue and unfortunately, this model is EOL.

I thought that the 1.37na firmware had a fix for samsung devices but I guess not... I did try a Luxul XWR3100 and I get +26h of usage today so I guess you are right about the older 655 not liking android devices...

Speaking of older, I think my 655 is like 12 years old (if not older) so I guess it has served me well all those years... time to get a new router...

Ya, the 655 has been a solid router over the years. The v1.37 was for a connection issue on some Samsung phones. I presume not for newer generation phones.

If the 868L works, might find a 2nd hand unit on amazon or fleabay. Good router.
