DIR-615 supports only 32 simultaneous connections?
« on: May 28, 2011, 01:01:40 PM »

Anyone has any idea about this? Today I read a comment on a review of DIR-615 (http://www.trustedreviews.com/D-Link-DIR-615-Wireless-N-Home-Router_Peripheral_comments), saying it supports only 32 concurrent connections where as other routers support more than 200  ???

Have to remember this router is a home end user router, general Internet use and downloading. Not a lot of call for a ton of connections for mom and pop man.

I use DIR-615 E4 in my office network :). Sharing internet with more than 70 workstations, blocking some URLs. And it works just fine. Never hanged so far. Thanks.

He is talking about sim. connection, most likly P2P traffic. I think it was a bug with the earlier firmware. And if your running 70 station..I have a feeling your running 3rd party firmware. LOL. If not..really? You have 70 workstations running on a 40$ router? Please tell me you atleast have some kind of decent firewall somewhere. Do you not have any load? How do you balance?

Itz true man, I'm not kidding. I'm using original dlink firmware ver. 5.11. The fact is internet bandwidth/throughput is extremely limited here in Bangladesh. So it's not a tough job for the DIR-615 to handle. 70 workstations sounds huge, but in fact itz actually not. I bought a Mikrotik 750g router to limit bandwidth of each workstation but haven't tried it yet. It'll replace my DIR-615 after configuring and testing. I found RouterOS of Mikrotik is anything but easy.

Wow, how about a DSR-500N. Might be a better router for you man. Ya, I have 20 devices connected to my router however not all at the same time and it's a $200 router. Need to invest in your HW and your system a little and leave the low end routers for home users and smaller businesses that only needs a few or some devices connected. Wow.

Well it depends. He probably isn't a typical user. I don't want it to sound like I am saying more money is better. Some of those solutions out there are a giant waste. If you got it to work on a budget, thumbs up. But what I see are people getting this router for free from their ISP for a residential account, then turn it into a business account when the business gets bigger, and all of a sudden their trying to hook a 1200$ PBX to this router and it doesn't work. In your case, its working fine, so cool.
