Hi

I'm considering buying this superb NAS. The only thing that prevents me from doing that is DLNA Streaming. I own a Samsung LED TV (7 Series, 2010 model) wich is a little special with DLNA streamings and hi-def MKV.

Does anyone tried to stream mkv files to a Samsung TV? It works?

Last I checked Samsung TV's don't stream mkv's natively.

ive got a 2011 8 series samsung tv. the tv doesnt stream mkv over the network - but it plays them if on usb.

however if you rename the .mkv to .avi for example - it works fine

I know that DLNA and mkv with Samsung is a bit dificult. The only software that I know who works fine is "minidlna", but its not natively supported by dlink. Using a ubuntu server running minidlna my tv plays mkv over the net, without conversion to any other kind of format.

drchris, please, could you confirm that renaming and .mkv to .avi streams fine through DLNA to a Samsung TV? It sounds fantastic

It was true. Renaming it to .mp4 fix the problem. Now mkv mp4 streams fine!

I can second that, have renamed all mine to avi.
You may had no sound on some if sound format is unsupported.

I am using miniDLNA to stream MKVs to my Samsung LE40B650 and can confirm that it's working (without renaming..).

I can't fast forward or reverse though, just play and stop.

There are several places which offer pre-compiled versions of miniDLNA, some work better than others, e.g. after updating mine is stuck at 100% load. Will report...

When I enable the UPnP AV Server and share my Photo, Music & Video directories on the DNS-320 my Samsung UN46B8000XF Television can't use the .jpg photos (I get "Not supported file format") or even see the music files (.mp3). It does play my videos (.mpg, .mpeg & .wmv) correctly.

Based on the posts here, I copied my Photo, Music & Video directories to a Ubuntu box and threw mini DLNA on it. I also downloaded a trial version of TWONKY. With either minidlna or TWONKY the B8000 saw the pictures & even ran a slide show, it also saw & played my music and videos.

Can your DNS-320 serve pictures and/or music to a Samsung TV?

No DNS320 will not stream MKV smoothly to anything, same file on shared PC streams fine.  DNS320 biggest waste of money ever.

Not in answer to the OP as I'm not streaming directly to my TV, but I am streaming MKV to a WDTV, have had no problems what so ever.
