I've got an A2  ;D ;D ;D ;D

More packet buffer can compensate for lack of speed. Perception-wise...

BTW Lycan, how do I become an Insane Member?  ???
Offtopic: do you know when Dlink starts selling those ANT24-0230 (http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=545)  in Europe? I will pay quadruple when ordering from Europe...I'm a good guy, but the Mrs will kill me

to be insane you need 1500 posts
godlike is 750

no idea, it may not be a EU product. I can ask.

I'll settle for Godlike  :)

It's a terrible waste they don't sell it in Europe. Got a rely from Dlink support and the answer to the questions "Will it be sold in Europe and if not: why not?" was "This item is currently not sold in Europe". As if I didn't know that ... :o

i'm bumping this as this is exactly what is happening to me.

i have a gigabit realtek chipset as well.

i have a 655 rev. 2

randomly, i get "a network cable is unplugged" messages from the router. i don't know if the router is just disconnecting or if the router is rebooting or what.

my 655 has been pretty solid until a couple weeks ago, which is interesting, because this post was originally made back on 1/29.

i believe there was a new realtek driver that was sent out recently, but the driver for the card shouldn't make a difference. i connected my nic up to an older dlink 10/100 router i had and no problems at all. so maybe there is an issue with the 655 over gigabit?

i've searched on these forums and on dslreports. there are a few reports of the same issue happening. any idea what's causing this on the 655?

What progress is made on the next firmware update? I can't even use my wireless N but the USB sharepoint works 100%.

nada. wireless is on though.

i've tried 3 different firmwares now. all on straight up default settings. i'll get disconnects.

restore settings. still disconnects.

clean firmware and re-create settings, still disconnects.

i'm on the most recent beta that was posted here, dated as 1/24/2009, ver 1.21. all default settings. i'm logging on the router right now. the thing is, the disconnects are so random, who knows when it will drop again. sometimes it will come in bursts - will disconnect 2-3 times within a matter of 2-3 mins or so. other times it will just disconnect once after hours of normal, steady use. seems to happen mostly though when i try to access a website.

i'm on the latest realtek driver, version 5709 i think. i think it's this latest realtek driver, but i have no problems connecting at 10/100 on another d-link router. haven't tried forcing to 10/100, but what's the point on a gigabit switch and when all my other equipment is gigabit? i could try rolling back driver to early version i guess...

thanks for the follow-ups lycan.

since i reported this earlier, and have the logging completely on, so far no disconnects. having logging on is the magic bullet so far...

and it's not the router rebooting. shows uptime of 4+ days. i'll report back later...

well, it disconnected again around 5:45EST. i disabled the wireless as you suggested and so far no disconnects and it's been about 3 hours. i'll keep the wireless disabled for the rest of the evening and if all is well, i'll re-enable tomorrow morning.

even when i had the wireless on, i had it running w/o encryption and the disconnects were present.

back with my daily report...

wireless off the past 24 hours or so. not one disconnect.

i noticed that there a a few topics now here with complaints about the same thing. something must be going on with this thing...

i'll leave wireless off until later tonight then turn back on for tomorrow. if it disconnects, then we know it's the wireless aaaand, if that's the case, what's the next course of action? any advice?

ok, back again - to reiterate, i have a 655 A2

I've pretty much narrowed down the issue to my NIC. it's a realtek gigabit RTL8169/8110 chipset.

i believe there is an issue with their driver newer drivers, versions 5709+. i'm not sure what the driver version was before that. there is a new driver realtek just put out in the last week, 5712, which i was hoping would fix the issue, but it does not.

on the 655, i've tried several settings. wireless on/off, etc etc etc. it will still disconnects on the lan side randomly.

i plugged into the embedded 10/100/1000 Intel NIC i have on my motherboard (for w/e reason, the 655 will never recognize it as a gigabit nic and always connects as 100mbs), and i have left it like that for over a week now and not one disconnect. if i go back to the realtek card, it connects at gigabit, but the random disconnects return.

i know the nic isn't bad because i tried using an old dlink di-604 i had sitting in the closet and it connects @ 100mbs and was solid for over 2 days straight on the realeak card.

i have not tried the realtek nic in 100mbs mode on the 655, but all my other equipment is gigabit, so no point to try that for me since i know it works in 100mbs on a different router just fine. hopefully dlink will find what the issue is with these newer realtek drivers and fix it.

in the mean time, i'm ordering a zyxel x550N router with gigabit switch to see if it's simply just the realtek drivers or if it's the actual router. i'll report back after testing. should be sometime later next week.

It could be the router PCB or the firmware. I use external switches to the DIR-655

dir-655 ---100mbps switch (streaming media boxes and wireless access points)
dir-655 ---1000mbps switch (all 4 systems uses Realtek Gig NICs)

i only need 4 ports - no reason to go and buy extra switches.

and it has been very reliable for over a year, and then the new realtek driver came out (5709+) and that's when i've been having issues i think.

so since then, i updated the firmware from 1.11 to the newer 1.21 firmwares, and no matter the firmware, they all had disconnects.

it's possible that the pcb has gone bad, but not likely. i have other machines connected at 1gbs just fine with no disconnects. this appears to only happen on my realtek gigabit nic.

the OP on this thread sounds like has same exact issue as me and many other people with some similiar sounding issues.
