Easy Search Utility cannot see DNS-323
« on: June 11, 2011, 08:38:41 AM »

I see where others have posted similar queries, but they were as old as 2009 and involved different versions of ESU and DNS firmware.

Most answers implied there was no downside, and indeed I have been able to format 2 Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB drives for RAID1, and everything seems to be fine (i.e., relative to accessing the DNS via my Firefox browser, and access the volume via addressing its IP with Windows XP).

Yet, ESU does refuse to connect:

(1) is there any downside, or IOW, might it imply that some functionality might not work right?
(2) out of curiosity and closure, is there any consensus on why it does not connect?

ESU v.4.7.0.0
DNS f/w v.1.08

There are many reasons why the ESU may not find a device. There is no additional functionality in the utility that can't be done manually. I've never run the ESU and I now have 3 x DNS323.

If you can access the admin console, then that is really all you need other than mapping a drive.

3 x DNS-323 with 2 x 2TB WD Drives each for a total of 12 TB Storage and Backup. Running DLink Firmware v1.08 and Fonz Fun Plug (FFP) v0.5 for improved software support.
