DIR-655 as Access Point
« on: January 23, 2009, 10:19:00 PM »

I am trying to use the DIR-655 as an access point.  I turn off DHCP etc and plug the network in to the LAN side.  Everything works fine, I get my IP addresses from the network (i.e., not the DIR-655) and wired and wireless work fine...for the most part.  The problem is that ALL of my wireless connections get disconnected/reconnected every couple of minutes...  If I change the DIR-655 back to a router (i.e., enable DHCP and plug into the WAN side), I NEVER get these disconnects....  Any thoughts...this is driving me crazy.  I have tried several of the versions of firmeware and currently using 1.21

Need to give the DIR-655 a static IP address. One that can't be changed by the main router. Also int he main router you should assign that static IP address as reserved one so it will know that AP will be using that IP address solely and not to give it to another system so you would avoid a IP conflict saying two devices are using the same IP address, which they can't.

Yes, I have done that.  Static IP on the DIR-655 and on the main router allocate that address.  But this does not seem to be the issue.  The DIR-655 wireless keeps going up and down when used as an access point but not when using the DIR-655 as a router.

Going up and down you mean the signal for wireless in N mode only or mix?

Are you running G devices or just N or mix. Why would you set it to B, do you have B wireless devices.

What firmware are you using?
Did you disable DNS Relay.
