Awesome. This is why I came to the forums: my DIR-651, which is brand new, keeps on dropping Wireless connections, and keeps disconnecting from the internet as well. My desktop is wired to the router. I have appropriate ports forward. If I hop on IRC, every 3 hours I will disconnect/reconnect. Hasn't worked right since day 1.
At first I did manual settings, then I tried using the wizard. Both result in intermittent issues. Yes I have the latest 1.01NA firmware flashed.
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL? Comcast
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router? Stand Alone DOCSIS3.x
Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? I guess you mean to just let it be automatic first, then copy the IPs, and then fill them in? I'm using Comcast DNS, no custom DNS or OpenDNS or Google, etc, etc.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option. It's off by default
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. It's on by default
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router. Done. Doesn't help, and truly defeats the purpose of DHCP. This should be completely optional.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address. Why? All but 2 are set up for DHCP. The others are specifying their IPs.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP. Done. No affect.
Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. Duh
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing. Duh
What wireless modes are you using? Mixed GN
Try single mode G or mixed G and N? No. I need it to be on GN mode. Some devices use N, others use G. This is why I purchased the thing.
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2. WPA2 is preferred, but the wizard sets you up with WPA/WPA2 optional. While I'd love to force WPA2/AES, I have it set for WPA or WPA2
I have no LAN phones in the house. My problem is also with wired connections though.
I set my friend up with a DLink router as well, and he's having similar issues. It seems these are the only ones with problems. I first kept the normal MAC address of the router. I then cloned the MAC address from the PC that I originally set up the internet on. No improvement.
I just want this to work. A router that broadcasts both G and N (2.4GHz, I have no need for 5GHz). A simple plug'n'play with a few tweaks (enabling uPNP, some port forwarding, etc, etc).
