DNS-320 Mac Problems
« on: June 27, 2011, 06:10:45 PM »

Thanks, it seems to have fixed that problem.

Any ideas about this one, It doesn't seem to matter how the DNS-320 is formatted as I usually end up with 2 or 3 different icons under the shared area of the sidebar. One of the icons looks like it has a mac desktop background and the other looks more like a windows machine? Here's what they say:

music - windows looking with dark blue color
Music-1 mac looking with lighter blue color
Music-1_AFP_Volume_1

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

i get it too, that is to say, it happens to me and i don't completely understand why.
i was suspecting it was because of the multiple protocols afp & smb, but i hadn't expected this behavior nor encountered it with other equipment.

What is happening is that shares have by default SMB and AFP enabled.

AFP is using avahi to announce itself via Bonjour, hence the mac monitor icon. SMB is not using avahi, so we get a windows icon.

Solution is simply having avahi announce all active services (HTTP, SMB, AFP, SSH, etc) and macs would see just one icon.
