I've been running a DL-4500 router for over a year now (I think) but just last week started having a problem.

On two different laptops running Windows 7 Home Premium (1-32 bit & 1 64-bit) I've gotten a 'limited access' error on the wireless connection. This basically shuts down the wireless access. Frankly there's nothing limited about it - there's NO access unless I hard-wire into the modem. :D

Went through support with the ISP (Clear WAN - all good on their end), then with D-Link. Did a factory reset with support. Things were good for that evening. Next morning, it started again. Did another factory reset, this time after (finally) upgrading to the current firmware as I thought that might help (duh! :D). While far more stable now, it does still on occasion give a 'limited access' error.

The only change I've made recently is using Google Public DNS since we were having so much trouble with sites that were obviously not down being inaccessible. But, if that was a problem I would think it would have made trouble right off the bat.

Any known issues, thoughts, experiences with this error?

My DGL 4500 did the same thing, after having it running for more than 200 days straight (I checked the display) my router starting giving all my wireless devices limited access, I got it replaced and now this boy has been running excellent. I am not saying yours is dead but what I am is stating my experience. Hope this isn't the case with yours.

How about lets see what wireless modes your running?
What wireless modes are you using?
Try single mode G or mixed G and N?
What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

The router has always been set for mixed. If problem recurs I can try going back to plain old G.

What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA2.
WPA2, of course.  :)

What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?
Up to 3 laptops off & on, all Asus running Win7.
No cordless phones, but our cell phones are set to piggyback on the home wifi when in range.
7 neighbors routers are visible, 2 of which are new and/or recently renamed, some are n, others are g, none have more than 2 bars of signal strength, most are protected, one is unlocked.

What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
Clear (Clearwire); neither - it's wi-max (wireless).

What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
Motorola, model CPEi 25150, stand alone.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Not sure if I'm finding the correct info for this one - in the router setup I'm set to Dynamic IP (DHCP) on the router so it's all 0.0.0.0. I have our laptops set to use Google Public DNS for their browsers (8.8.8.8; 8.8.4.4) which has improved browser performance significantly.

Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Was already off.

Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Was already enabled.

Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Done, or will be as other devices are turned on.  ;)

Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Always been set this way.

Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.
Changed both. UDP was set to Address Restricted & TCP was set to Port & Address restricted.

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.
Will do so if problem occurs again - it's been mostly fine but intermittently bad since upgrading the firmware.

Do you see anything that I changed that could've been an issue, Fuzzy?

After I did the first factory restart, there weren't any problems when I'd take the laptop over to the router and wired into it.

Also, I hadn't mentioned previously but, when the router was first having problems, it wasn't getting IP info from the modem. That hasn't happened since I upgraded the router firmware. So far...

Currently, we don't have any PCs wired into the router as we're an all-laptop family right now. Xbox, TV, & Blu-Ray are wired in. This is why I've loved this router so far - for it's traffic management. I don't get berated for anything I'm doing online when my hubby is dying in an Xbox firefight. :D

For most purposes it's working fine now, except when playing an mmo & using Ventrillo. I went back to this type of gaming over the weekend & since it's doing it w/2 different mmo's it's me, not the games. I am getting regular disconnects/reconnects with one time noticing the 'limited access' error message. It doesn't show most times however.

I'm going to try & checking two things - using a different computer to see if it's this one & streaming some video which I guess is close in bandwith usage.

If I didn't mention it before, the router is under extended full replacement warranty through 9/12 so it's less upsetting if it's decided to break. :D

since you did a reset, I would set up wifi up for single mode G to test then try Mixed G and N only.

Let us know. Maybe we can teamviewer.com in and check your settings on the router.

I've been running mixed N & G for a while now and it is much much better!

However, while it ran for over a year and rarely needed a restart, the router now seems to need restarting a couple of times a week. This never, perhaps simply due to timing, affects the hard wire connections, just the wireless. Hopefully this is not speaking to future router death. I would think a router this deluxe would work until the next generation of wireless protocol.

What FW is currently loaded? v1.21NA gave SOME routers problems. Mines loaded with it now.
What HW version is this router? I've got an A2.
