Author Topic: Why is my router giving two separate default gateways and SSIDs?  (Read 6105 times)

My router is showing two separate SSIDs, dlink and dlink 2 it only recently started doing this and around the same time my router has been constantly rebooting when there's little or heavy internet traffic.

I have a DIR 655 Hardware Version: A4

Firmware: 1.21 NA

I refuse to go to any version above 1.21 as 1.21 is the most stable firmware for the 655, I have tried all other with terrible outcomes and wireless performance.

I've looked around and most people think it's a joke or something, always saying it's probably a neighbors wireless, but that's impossible since I'm on an acreage and my neighbors are too far away for us to be receiving their wireless signals, and if I change the password and encryption type (WPA/WEP/WPA2) I have to change the security settings on both dlink and dlink 2.

Also I have the normal 192.168.0.1 gateway to access the router under the "LAN" section under Status on the router, but under WAN I have a completely different gateway that just recently showed up. I have no idea where this came from or what happened.

Any other Wifi routers in the area?
How about changing the SSID on your router to something more unique and easy for you to identify, something beisdes dlink. It can be anything.

Just read this for a second.

There is one other wireless connection I can pick up, but it's so far away I don't even get a bar on it, I live on an acreage and my neighbors are far enough away that if we do see each others wireless networks it's for a brief second with almost no connectivity.

I know they're both from my router, why? Because if I change the security settings on my router, I have to go into the properties of D Link and change it, but the "Connect" stays grayed out and it won't let me connect, if I set the security settings on D Link 2 to the same as D Link, it suddenly lets me connect and everything works fine.

Changed the SSID and the other SSID is gone, it did this last time but reappeared as soon as the router was reset.

This is just a wrieless "Profile" on the computer that is connecting wirelessly.  It can be caused by many things.  A driver change in the wirless NIC, a changes in the security settings, or even just a hiccup in the system.  Thats why it says DLINK and DLINK2, if it bothers you just delete both connections and recreate one.

Mmm, actually they are both coming from my Wireless Network, I tried to delete D Link 2 before and D Link completely disappeared too, I changed my SSID name and seems the other is gone now.
