DIR-655 1.2x firmware and MULTIPLE XBoxes + XBL
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:37:21 PM »

OK,

I originally bought my 655 with the intention of providing an unsecured wireless 'Guest Zone' to the internet as well as a secured connection.

I have 2 XBoxes (or XBoxen if you prefer) connected behind my 655's secure vlan and both require simultaneous access to XBox Live.  I selected the 655 because it had a 'Works with Vista' tag on it - which also means it has passed the XBox compatibility tests...

With the 1.11 firmware, this works great - but I do not have the multiple Wireless LAN "Guest Zone" provided by the 1.2x firmware.

When I install 1.2x to gain the "Guest Zone" it breaks the heck out of multiple XBox connectivity for me. (One XBox connects to XBL fine - two or more cannot simultaneously connect - nor can they start gaming sessions with each other.)

1) Has anyone else seen this behavior?
2) Does DLink know about this? (OK I can dream right?)

Did you copy (reload) your 1.11 config into the 1.21 FW?

Edit: Make a clean flash and config. The reloading can work OK, but on certain areas this can cause problems (some code hasn't changed, but some is shifted and added)

@EddieZ - It was a completely clean load - I unboxed the 655 - loaded the 1.2x firmware then boom.

@Lycan - I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

In the end you will find that 1.11 is quicker. I am experiencing the same kind of results you
are. Seems in 1.2x there are some speed restrictions.........

Hi,

We have multiple XBox 360's here and they both can be online with no issues.  I did NOT set up any port forwarding for with 360.  Both are wired thru HomePlug wiring to different parts of the house.

I DID set up manual IP's for each (on both the router and the 360 networking setups)....I did NOT use DHCP for the XBox's.....

Properly set up 360's should have no problem being online together thru the 655 router.  Don't need to use the Guest Zone.

Sammydad - you are correct that they SHOULD work :)  Wish It would... However for me - so far - no dice unless I stay on 1.11.

I have an array of forwarded ports to various virtual servers inside the network.  (HTTPS, LDAP-S, SMTP, RDP-S to name a few) I am also serving my own DNS and DHCP inside the network so I disable those facilities in the router.  (hat proved problematic for me for other reasons on 1.2x but that's not in scope for this conversation) I do not statically assign IPs to my XBoxes - though I could if I had to via DHCP reservations.

I require the guest zone to allow well - guests to access the internet from my location without accessing the secure side of my network.

Because I'm 'working' on 1.11 (without the Guest wireless zone of course) and other issues that would affect the scenarios i use - I'm a little gunshy to try any of the 1.2x betas until i hear that it may make a positive difference for me.

GuestZone can NOT have an XboX attached to it. Ports 80 and 443 only. I misunderstood the issue.
