2.05NA doesn't work with any D-Link Easy Search Utility
« on: July 10, 2011, 12:00:28 PM »

D-Link needs new people in charge if they expect to stay in business. Eventually people WILL catch on to their lack of support and intelligence.

I tried to upgrade to 2.05NA several times and there always ends up being an issue that support is too sad to give the correct answer to and just puts a consumer thru "jumping thru hoops" and getting nowhere.

2.05NA (actually started with 2.03NA) first caused a problem with limiting my upload speed to 1024mb. I happened across the fix on another forum and tried it and it worked. It was the default QoS setting D-Link changed after version 2.02NA and refuses to release a new firmware to fix this for everyone. Why they don't release a new FW that fixes the issue but keeps things promised on the package working is beyond me.  >:(

Now, I purchased a D-Link DNS-323 and I finally got drives to fill it some time back. If 2.05NA is loaded, the Easy Search Utility will not connect to the NAS. I have tried the version the NAS came with AND the latest version offered. It will see the NAS upon 1st launch of the latest Easy Search Utility, but it will not connect and then it disappears if you relaunch the utility and won't return until a reboot. Bottom Line: it will not connect with 2.05NA loaded. It works fine with 2.02NA.

What is the setting that D-Link has screwed over here also that is causing this problem? It is pretty sad that their own hardware items won't play well together unless you run old FW. Is there anyone that knows what setting D-Link changed that is making the D-Link DIR-825 not connect to the D-Link DNS-323 NAS when the DIR-825 has 2.05NA loaded. I have a DIR-825 Rev. B1 and a DNS-323 NAS with its latest firmware. I am using 2.02NA on the router since that is the only one that works and is the latest stable release(other than the DHCP reserve issue), no matter what D-Link wants to try to make people think. I won't try their support since they NEVER did give me the fix for the QoS upload issue and when I asked them to put it as a sticky in this forum when I found the answer somewhere else....well, there is no sticky as we all know. I would like to be able to have the DHCP Reserve issue working too, but I would like to connect to my NAS more at this point.

D-Link, you are going to see a hit to your business if you continue down this path. I hope you are cutting FurryNutz a weekly check since they are the one answering YOUR questions.

How do you have QoS set up?
I currently have 2.05 on my rev B router and my uploads are 2Mb and thats what I pay for. I have 50Mb down.

How is your NAS connecting to the router? Wired? Wifi? USB?
Have you posted in the NAS forums to see if anyone else has any information on this?

I'd be willing to have a look at your router settings if you are interested in using teamviewer.com

Hi, I have DIR-825 and DNS-320 and I have no problems with the NAS. Have you tried to simply map the drive in windows the regular way (http://www.dlink.cc/others/how-to-d-link-dns-323-map-a-volume-using-the-windows-7-or-vista-map-network-drive-utility.html)?

Hi, I have DIR-825 and DNS-320 and I have no problems with the NAS. Have you tried to simply map the drive in windows the regular way?
Thanks for the responses. I have the upload issue fixed when I have had 2.05 flashed. I get the 3Mb upload speed I pay for. I have it enabled but I manually have it set to 4096kbps so it gives me the full upload speed.

I am wired to the NAS. I haven't posted anything there since the problem appears to be the router since 2.02 works with the upload issue and the NAS issue. It is changes made since 2.03 that caused problems with the upload speed because I contacted them after 2.03 was released and got the "hoop jumping" thing. I contacted them again after 2.05 was released and it still persisted. They NEVER mentioned the QoS setting, just hoop jumping. This means their email support doesn't communicate with the techs writing the FW. Heck, they STILL haven't released a new FW to fix a problem they HAVE to be aware of. I'll bet there are many people out there that have a DIR-825, and aren't even aware it is restricting their internet connection(if it is above 1Mb up) because they just don't know to check it or feel they have no reason to. Thanks for the offer to connect with teamviewer.com. I'd rather not and besides, the router is set at its defaults except for a couple of port forwards and some DHCP reservations, except for the ones that start with something other than 00. I am still using 2.02 because of this NAS issue so I am stuck not getting to reserve connections for everything on the network. Oh, I did disable the Captcha on login. Man do I hate Captcha!

The problem is D-Link. They don't participate in this forum from what I can see. They won't post stickies for issues with 2.05 even though they are aware of them. You have to happen upon them or read this forum daily. FurryNutz, I really do hope they are cutting you a check. Answering questions like you do keeps them from having to do anything and you are very kind for doing it since they won't. The current FW is known to have issues that have to be addressed, like the QoS issue. There should have been an update just for that alone. 2.05 appears to have to be the problem with this NAS issue since by default it works in 2.02 and does not work by default when 2.05 is installed. It is something they phudged up and don't care to look into it.

LoonQ, I haven't tried, or wasn't even aware of connecting thru Windows. I'm gradually getting into networking but never thought about it. Thanks for teaching me something new. I still think their own harware and software should be able to communicate between their own devices. One thing I noticed in your sig was that you are using Rev. B2 of the DIR-825. I wonder if that may be why yours is working or do you use the NAS Easy Search Utility or have you always connected with the Windows Drive Mapping? It seems the Easy Search Utility is suppose to help you manage the NAS easier.

Anyway, thanks for the responses and the info. FurryNutz, you should get $20 a post(from D-Link, of course  ;D) when you give the answer that fixes someones issue because D-Link isn't interested in joining their forum or fixing their problems.

I mainly use Linux Mint but on my kids machines (Windows based) I have always done the connection thru Windows and never used the D-Link tool.

Have you checked your PMs for any messages? Just curious...

Also it's preferred to use a external switch between PC and NAS. Better performance and this separates the the router from dedicated traffic between the PC and NAC and it doesn't have to do any processing or traffice management. There is a reason for these devices.

No PM's, but thanks for asking.  :)
If you think I would get something like a PM from D-Link, I don't suspect that will happen. Instead of helping, they are most likely thinking of my straight honest talk and feel they shouldn't have to address me. I tried nice at first but "hoop jumping" and then finding answers in other places after long time periods has made it hard to now mince words.

I expect what is stated on the hardware package be true when I buy the product. I know nobody is perfect, but they are showing they aren't even striving for that end. D-Link is not working toward making the claims on the package or a site selling the hardware, to be true. They seem to be fine with people using other ways to do their work(using some kind of workarounds) instead of making their software and FW work properly. It's not right, plain and simple.

Thanks for offering assistance. Now I'm stuck.
