Trying to set up Raid 1

I have two New 1TB seagate drives installed. I have updated firm ware. when I run the set up Raid 1 options all goes as expected. I get the restart dialog. I then log back in and on the next screen I see this:  Click Next to begin formatting the replacement drive. Re-sync will take place after the restart.

Anyone have a suggestion to this?

could you be having a problem with the seagate firmware?

Did you try it again a second time? Same thing?

Try another browser. If you were using IE7 try Mozilla Firefox. Temporarily disable any anti-virus or personal firewall software on the PC and try again.

I pulled the drive out that would format and swapped the second drive from left bay back to the right bay and just tired to do a standard format and I get the message" failed to complete format"  So am I feeling the pain of other people that have bought Seagate drives? I have read about the 1.5TB drives being crap but did not see anything on the 1TB. What say yee?

I thought I might have had a bad hard drive, but I took the drive that was getting the format error message, and put it in my PC down stairs and it was able to do a quick format and use it as a extra drive. I took it back out and tried again, this time on the boot up screen after log in, the check box for revert to Raid 1 was able to be checked, "it has been grayed out on all attempts" but after 8% of reformatting it skipped all the way to 99% then gave me the drive failure. Does this thing handle 1TB drives?

Have you tired using empty unformatted drives?  With access to your other pc, using diskmgmt.msc are you able to completely delete all partitions on your drives and running the raid1 setup that way?  Perhaps that can rule out other issues that may be taking place.

I have seen that forum about seagate. I did a S/N check with their utility and it came back A OK for my drive. So Im back to trial and error.

The drives were right out of the box when I put them into the DNS. I have gotten a small test drive to see if that will format to rule out some weird HD hang up.

Well I broke down and bought a over priced 750gig Samsung HD. The one that was shown on the tested list for the -321. I got it home put it in and formated the drive with no problems. Then set up a Raid 1 with the 1TB seagate drive, so that gave me a 250gb JBOD partition as well. So I'm still scratching my head as to why the two 1TB drives wont work together. At least I know its not the -321
