Samsung hd154ui 1.5tb not compatible?
« on: July 17, 2011, 07:28:50 AM »

In setting up the DNS-320, I installed first a Seagate ST2000DL003 successfully (including fun_plug).  I then decided to migrate the Samsung HD154UI out of the DNS-321...

Surprise surprise, the 320 will not power up the HD154ui?!?  No blue led lite shows on the face of the 320 (neither R/L slot).

I've got a usb docking station, hooked the HD154UI thru the 320's usb port, and it mounted.  That in turn allowed me to transfer the files to the ST2000L003 (thankfully).

Its just sad, the HD154UI was formatted (ext3) in the 321, and worked fine.  Yet will not install directly into the 320. :(

I have a pair of those disks running fine in my DNS-320 - i suspect you will need to let the DNS-320 format the disks?

see now thats what I'd expect, it makes sense, if the drive was seen and working in the 321.  (thanks for confirming that the drive will work in the 320)

hmm, its really odd, its almost like the power and data connector on the drive isn't seating fully into the 320 slot.  The drive doesn't spin when inserted into the bay, and no lights on the front light up.  The format won't work, since the drive doesn't appear as an addressable device.

I haven't upgraded the firmware in the 320, to the beta, not sure that would make a difference.

i just don't know...

If there is no blue light on either of the slot when a drive is plugged in that meant it's not detected by the NAS. Do made sure that it's seated properly in the sata slot which is why there is an additional foam on the cover to ensure this is so.

As long as the NAS detected the drive it will show up on the admin page even if the drive is not formatted or in some other filesystem format.
