How are you going to connect the DSL Modem or Cable Modem to the Router, if you did that?

Install a Wireless Adapter Card in your Desktop Computer(s) and go wireless.

The DIR-655 is connected through the D-Link Switch to the Bell (Canada) 2Wire Router and WirelessG AP, using one of the LAN ports.

This is done so that everything is on the same 192.168.2.* network.

Both my DGS-2205 Switch and DIR-655 have all their LAN ports used.

I need to add another VM server in the basement, and it needs to be highspeed.

EDIT: I am thinking of addind Wifi to another floor because of poor reception from AP on floors below. Any suggestions on a D-Link Product for that?

Suggestions? Could I maybe use the WAN port to connect to the switch instead?

Wow, some set up. Really, I would look at getting into a DAP unit that can relay and extend the range of your wifi. I would recommend minimizing adding more routers and access points since you seem to have alot going on. Having alot more WiFi devices makes it hard to ensure your getting good signal and range. I would recommend adding a larger switch for your wired connections and then use a DAP unit for extending your WiFi. I think doing this would probably reduce the need of the 655. I use a 24port switch for all wired here and also connects to APs that broadcast Wifi. K.I.S.S.

Yeah, I know, a bit of a mess... thats what happens when u go from single computer to  family that grows and are all digital and stuff. Not a lot of planning just kept adding stuff.

I'll read up on what a DAP is.. also, a single switch does not work because of multiple floors and the house is not ezxactly connected to a patch panel (in my dreams it is).

Also, most of the stuff I rather do wired as opposed to wireless. It is really just the wife and a daughter that like walking around with their lappys.

Can under stand that man...might have to get someone to help you climb in to the attic and run some wireing...I know...hate it. LOL.

The DAP might help out. Heard some have have good luck in them. I would try to do this. The devices that need alot of bandwidth like streaming and gaming, wire them if you can. Devices like LTs and phones and portable stuff and devices that don't need major bandwidth, WiFi should work the best. Mixed G and N.

Somone mentioned that there is a 1watt AP that I guess does very well. Was over in the DIR-825 forum I think. Post #3. Might be a good idea for you..have better range..cut down APs to maybe just one.

Look for an DDWRt enabled router, or the first router in mine link. These can do what you want.

i only to help him for a solution to work. dlink hasn't got this kind of solution, Or he can take the dir825 revision B  flash it with ddwrt and it is also possible, but not with dlink firmware.

Ok, i think I got it based on your suggestions...

One thing about the 655, it is needed to give me 801.11n. the 2wire one is only G and I do like the speed of the 655.

So after thinking about your adding a bigger switch is to add another small switch instead. The reason is I reaaaaly dont want to go into the attic

So I can buy this D-Link DGS-1008G, 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch for $49.00 and put it in place of the 655 and move the 655 to the middle floor, that way I have all the hardwired ports I need for my man cave, and the fast wireless centrally in the middle floor.

What do you think? will work?

Any issues of cascading switchies?

ya man, good deal for the switch. you can cascade or daisy chain switches with out issues. I've got a 8 port in the living room coming off my 24 port.
