International Warrany
« on: July 21, 2011, 04:06:54 PM »

I bought the DIR-655 less than a year ago in Amazon, shipping it to NY. And then I came back to Uruguay. Almost 3 months ago the router stopped working completely and I started to search for support in Uruguay.

After calling US support I was told I should contact the local or regional D-Link (which I later found is D-Link LA). And via DLinkLA.com I found the company TELEDATA S.A. (http://www.teledata.com.uy/) who does the official support for D-Link in Uruguay. They told me the router couldn't be fixed, and told me DLinkLA, which is based in Chile, would either send me a working one (they also told me the service/warrany was already approved), or send me the money and gave me their contact details.

After two weeks of contacting them, trying to get their attention, they finally told me it was not their responsability because it was bought in the US. And now they don't return my e-mails.

I don't know what to do. Has anybody been in a similar situation and is kind enough to give me some advice. I would really appreciate that.

Thanks.

I hate to say it but I think you may be out of luck.  Only way I can think of, is if you have someone you know back in US that you can ship it to and have them do the replacement.

davevt31,

Thanks. I am actually going to the US in less than two weeks. How would be the fastest way to get a replacement. I am only going for one week to Miami,Fl.

Thanks!

No clue, you would have to discuss that with customer support.

Call tech support and insist on getting a case number that is authorized for an RMA. If you already have one from Uruguay, it may work. I'd do this this immediately upon arrival.

Go to rma.dlink.com and fill out the RMA info. Choose the "cross shipment" option to get it sent right away. You can also choose from several expedited shipping options. Be sure to print the page with the return address and RMA number (which you can use to track the process at rma.dlink.com/status.aspx.

You will need a proof of purchase to complete the process. You can call 800-326-1688 options 3, 1 to talk to someone to fax it to directly to speed things up. They are (unlike the offshore tech support) very helpful. If you have a reasonably priced US phone plan from Uruguay, you could call and get things set up before you leave for the US. They might also be able to tell you if your case number can be used or you need a new one.
