LAN Setup between Laptop with Wireless facility and Desktop
« on: August 06, 2011, 04:41:42 AM »

Hi,

Presently I'm using the Wireless 150 DIR 600 router to share a internet connection between my desktop (with LAN cable from LAN port in Desktop PC connected to LAN port in router) and Laptop connecting wireless to router.

Now I also want to create a LAN connection between my Desktop (LAN cable connected to router) and Laptop (wireless) using the same router. Is it possible ? If yes, how can do it ?

Note: I have only one LAN port on my desktop, so should be able to access with the esisting setup ....

Thanks,
Adi

Is there anyone locally in your area that has some technical knowledge about working in windows? There is some steps that need to be taken to get things shared out between each computer that needs to be done in windows and not the router.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option Setup/Internet/Manual.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Ensure Windows work group for both PCs is the same name, can be anything.
You need to share folders on each pc. Right click on a folder and select Sharing. There are wizards in there that can help you share folders.
Once all that is done, then you can use Networking to open the folders on each pc or the shares should be listed in the Networking window.

I recommend getting a hold of a friend or professional help for further guidance.
