Blocks Epson Artisan ink levels
« on: August 12, 2011, 12:04:24 PM »

I purchased a Epson Artisan 835, which I am runnung wireless. When I try to check the ink levels from my laptop they are all greyed out. Epson tech said the Dir-655 was the problem and that I needed to get the router to give permission for the ink levels to go through. I have  no idea how to do that. Could someone help me please?
Thanks

Yea, they need to give more information. What ports need to be open on the router for that? Did they say?

Also does the printer exhibit this on a LAN cable connection?
I also might suggest this:
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

My I get status from my non Epson printer just fine. I need to replace mine sometime soon. It's low.

Thanks for your interest. If the printer is connected by a cable to my laptop it works just fine. I will try these other suggestions.

Does the printer have a built in web page?  You could use that to check the levels.  Just use your browser and type in the IP address of the printer.

I can get the ink levels at the printer. Here is the problem, I do a lot of pictures and many are 8x10,when I print one the ink levels will apear and I can tell if I am going to have enough ink to print the picture. Now I don't know until the picture is printered.

I did change the firewall settings to "Endpoint Independent." for TCP and UDP. Did not help. The first two suggestions I did  not know how to do.

Hardware  A3 and the Firmware Version is 1:10....could any of this be a problem?  Never had to go into the router before, like a blind tunnel.

in the "If It Was Me" corner....

If I was printing 8 x 10 photos on a regular basis... I would NOT do it wirelessly....just asking for ruined pictures, and lots of wasted ink which already costs some $2,000 a gallon (if you do the math).  I would have that printer hard wired to my pc as best I could.  Too many things can interfere with a wireless signal....even momentary blips will ruin a photo....

Just my opinion...

See if Wireless Lan Partition is enabled under Advanced/Advanced wireless. Disable it if it's check.

Did you add IP reservations for the PC and printer (wired and wireless IP addresses) on the router?

I presume that the Mfr supports the ink level data over wifi. However I would recommend asking to make sure. They also might have some help on what to setup to get the levels to show up on the wireless connection. Let us know, maybe someone can't teamviewer.com in and take a look at your router settings.

Sorry, I looked but could not find a place to add IP reservations. If some one wanted to take a look at my settings I wold be agreeable to that.  Thanks

IP reservations are located on the router under Setup/Networking.

it doesn't matter, the firewall cannot be the problem because your on the Lan side of the router and not on the Wan Side (ip adrers is also not the problem, but be sure you set the ip on the printer manually). Wat kind of Antivirus runs on your computer, maybe its blocking it, took a look on it ,and try to disable the firewall setting of the antivirus, en look of it will work then, if ut work you need te make an rule in the software,

He did mention that he gets ink status on the LAN side of his PC, he's not getting any status on the WiFi side of his PC. I presume security software might not be an issue here.

Here is more information:
Epson walked me through different steps such as turning off my firewall. (Nortons) Had me to reinstall the printer. Used the wireless set-up at the printer.
I have Win 64bit and a Alienware laptop. As I remember the ink levels showed until they had me upgrade the drivers.  I purchased a UBS cable and connected it to my printer and the ink levels do show. But, I can't have the cable connected all the time.
Thanks to all that are trying to help.
