Installed my new TrendNet TEW-640MB Wireless Bridge
« on: August 17, 2011, 12:53:30 PM »

Hi,

While I have been VERY happy using my DIR-655 for the most part, all wireless routers have limitations for expansion across your home....  I got my TrendNet TEW-640MB installed last night, and it talks to the 655 perfectly, and now I have 4 ethernet ports at distance across my house.  I have also used a couple TrendNet TEW647Ga single port wireless bridge for other parts of my home, but with only a single ethernet port, you still need a little switch/hub to get the extra ports....

Because these units speak .11N at 300 Mbps, it takes full advantage of the technology the 655 gave me when I bought it back in 2009 (??).....

I am not sure if DLink makes a comparable unit, but if they don't they should....

I also have a similar unit and like it very much. The only thing is I have not been able to get it to work with WISH. When I enable wish my throughput drops from 30-40Mb (about 100% of available speed) to 4Mb. I am still playing with it though.

Hi,
I have never had a need to use WISH
not that it should cripple your speeds if
you choose to use it....

Are you running g/n or n only? I had my
wireless on b/g/n and changed it to g/n
as the b part seemed to induce slowness.

N only with WPS2 AES. I also turned the HT to Green Mode I think. How do you access your adapter now though?

I set up a reserved LAN IP in my router and
in the 640MB, so I use that IP and I can
access its web page that way.

One of my 647GA units doesn't let me
do that (version 1.0 model) but my Version
2.0 model is also easily accessible by IP.
Not sure why the 1.0 model doesnt let
me access it over wireless, but it works
fine beyond that.

Oh..duurr. Why didn't I think of that? I was trying to connect to it from the adapters ethernet side. Awsome. Thanks for the tip.
