Hi, I'm one of apparently many which has problems with NAT being set to strict instead of open or moderate when playing COD Black ops. I tried port forwarding, unchecked firewalls, set it in DMZ etc etc. Now, nothing of these actions helped at all.

What did help is this;

get NAT moderate simply by adding it as a dhcp server and make a static ip. and if you do get strict once more, reboot the ps3 and you should have a moderate setting.

When you say adding "it" as a DHCP server, what do you mean? Do you mean a DHCP reservation?

i mean: Add DHCP Resevation.
And u have to set a static ip on the ps3.

It's recommended to add a reservation on the router and set the PS for auto obtain IP addressing. Give it a try.

I know this works best for Xbox 360. I've never had a problem on my PS3 though. I'd try it.

Furry, what is your reason for liking it that way? Not saying your right or wrong, just would like to understand your logic. :-)

Easier to troubleshoot when IPs remain the same, also creating rules is easier.

I was asking Furry what his reason for liking DHCP along with DHCP reservations. Why not use DHCP reservation to keep that IP out of the pool, then use Static IP. That way your not taking up traffic when the IP has to check for renewal.

Its basically for ease of setup.  For static IPs you have to go to each machine and configure it manually,  with the reservation it is still getting the same IP everytime and you can keep the machine at the default auto settings.  Most IPs leases are for 24 hours, you can change the length of time if you want, but the traffic involved with renewing is minimal.

For advanced people and IT people, it's preferred to use reservations at the router and as others have said and I agree with, it makes it easier to manage,  and troubleshoot. You only need to go to one place to manage IPs and such and not go wondering around trying to find devices and try to configure each of them.
I do believe that most Corp. IT infrastructure uses this logic. Not everyone needs to use it nor do avg households with surfing and emails.
