Wirelss

I am experiencing extremely slow wireless speeds. Even copying from a laptop to a desktop internally.
I had a cheap Linksys (my backup router) my d-link (i forget the model it was like 6 yrs old) worked so much better.

I am using 2.4 b/g; with only my PC that I use for MLB.TV and NetFlix having a N adapter, that machine is not always on.

Again the previous d-link and linksys did not have any data speed issues, until the d-link fried in a thunder storm and the old linksys just like to reset the connection every 3 days (thats why it is the backup)

I had great hopes for this router but I am really disappointed.

Current Firmware Version :1.23NA.
Current Firmware Date :2010/04/13

When I click check for new firmware I get : This firmware is the latest version

I have 2.4 set at b/g only.

Any advice would be great

How about setting single mode G on 2.4Ghz?

Do you use the 5Ghz radio at all? Turn it off while testing 2.4Ghz radio.

What security mode are you using? WEP, WPA or WPA2? Preferred is WPA-Personal. Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area?

Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing.
Turn off all devices accept for one wired PC while testing.

I had tried just setting to G w/o an difference.
I have not turned off the 5ghz antenna; I don't use it all that often so I will try that.

Yes I have WPA-Personal with auto

4 laptops and 4 cell phones :)

there are; pretty much the same ones that were in the area before I put this one into service.

Thanks for the reply.
I'll run some more tests and see how things go.

What kind of slow speeds are you seeing?
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.

Ensure DNS IP addresses are being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual?
Turn off QoS options.
Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option.
Turn on DNS Relay under Setup/Networking.
Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices on the router.
Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP.

Want to update; sorry its been a while; I have seen increased speeds with my router.
One thing I noticed was that is was VERY hot. I had it sitting on my desk horizontally. I put it in the little stand so it is vertical and it is much cooler and running much better.

for the record:
Cable (comcast: wired connection 29.74mbps down and 3.55mbps up)
Stand Alone
ARRIS tm602g/ct
n/a

Primary DNS Server :68.87.68.166.
Secondary DNS Server :68.87.74.166

I went ahead and just turned that off
don't see it
it is already enabled
already setup this way
already setup this way
changed my firewall settings to this

maybe this will make it faster still; will report back on these additions.

Thank you for your assistance.

Good to hear.
You'll find Advanced DNS Services under Setup/Internet/Manual if you have this option.

Be ware that I have and others have seen some issues with Arris ISP Modems. Not sure exactly why these are causing problems. I do know that some of them have VoIP support and thus will have a built in router. My father has one. I was visiting and had bought a NetGear WiFi router to put on. Just connecting everything like I do at home didn't work. I actually had to MAC Clone the PC to the router before the router would get connected to the Arris modem. Very ODD and I don't like it that way.  >:(

I would recommend a Motorola SB 6120 modem should you want to hand off the Arris some day.

Things you can turn off if your don't need them on the router, QoS, WISH, Short GI, Proctected WiFi setup. If you don't use A or B modes for WiFi then theres no reason to have the router broadcast them since there not being used. Use only the modes you really need.

Anyways, keep us posted on how it goes. Here to help if we can.
