DNS-320 UPNP SCRAMBLED / NON-ALPHABETICAL FILES
« on: August 26, 2011, 07:17:34 PM »

I have a problem when trying to view video files through the UPNP / media server function.  Basically, I have the files organized alphabetically in folders.  The "folders" show up via the "FOLDER" tab and appear to be all there, but, they the folders are no longer listed alphabetically and when a folder is opened, the actual files are also in random order.  I found one other post on a NAS website with this exact problem but no responses.  I am pretty certain that this is 320 issue as I have 2 other brand NAS devices and they show up correctly through these devices.  I have read through 12 pages of posts and did not find this issue addressed or any possible fixes.  If I missed it please redirect me.  I am running firmware 2.0  I hope someone can help or at least confirm that this is a known bug.  Please and thank you.

It's at known issue, and has been reportet in here earlier.
D-Link has also respond to it, at they will look into it and solve it in the next firmware.
It's som time ago, and I just wonder, why D-Link hassn't released a beta firmware regarding this issue yet.
I've installed beta firmware 2.1 and it issn't solwing the issue, so there needs to be a version 2.2.

Thanks very much for the response and helpful information.  It seems strange to me though that they would market this NAS as basically home equipment and tout Media Server as one of it's main features and then clearly never test it before marketing the product. Very disappointing because it makes the media server useless in any practical way.  I hope your right about a firmware fix but, v2 and v2.01, apparently don't even try to address it.  Not happy.

I had the same problem, but within 24-48 hours everything had alphabetized and now is easy to find in folders.   :)

it sounds a bit strange
I have tried several times but never succeeded for me.
I'm running firmware 2.01.
Now I'm just waiting for a new beta firmware that solves the problem .

Hi all, I tried the 2.01 firmware anyway as I am planning to try a couple 3TB Hitachi drives anyway, but the problems, if any thing got worse, now I get no access at all to files through the media server.  I use an Argosy media player and a WD LIVE PLUS on my system and the media server will not access any files.  Plus the access to the 320 is much slower, so much so, that the WD TV LIVE PLUS seems to time out and block access when trying to access the files as Network Shares.  I hope there is a new beta sometime in the near future.  I am not optimistic though, I noticed that this random file issue was reported back in May 2011....this is almost September.

UPDATE: The beta firmware 2.02 seems to have resolved this issue, folders and files are alphabetical.
