Constant 2 Bars
« on: August 29, 2011, 03:50:04 PM »

I have a problem with my router constantly giving me 2 bars on Xbox Live. Can anyone help me correctly setup my stuff? I need this done asap as I have matches to run later tonight :(
Thanks!

Well the wireless power is dependent on distance and interference, how many walls or wireless devices are around your routers and how far is your Xbox live to your router? Also FurryNutz advises to try wireless G mode it tends to work at farther distances. But nonetheless I would only recommend you to go wired for gaming it is the best method, but I understand not everyone is able to.

I live in a Barracks room, so my devices are no more than 15 feet away from my router at all times.. I play my xbox wired (but everything else is wireless)

I just need my settings done correctly.. thats all pretty much

Its annoying when I get 16mbs but still 2 bar constantly on my xbox :(
I know FurryNutz said that he could help via teamviewer
That would be great! I'll pm him :)

What is your download, upload speed and what do you ping at?  The bars are supposed to be a representation of your ping.  If you only have a 2 bar you are probably pinging at over 150ms and there is nothing any router can do to improve this, even this router.

Use the XBL sticky on this forum and look at my thread about questions on the sticky.  You may have the same ones!
Make sure you add a rule for the PC!

Tell your room mate to get of the internet! Killing newbs takes priority!!!!

What are you pinging at on pingtest.net to your local servers?

you need to set top priority to your console (after setting up a DHCP reservation for it).  Then do the same for your roommate's console or PC or whatever he uses to watch that stuff and set it at a VERY low priority.
