Phone connection to base
« on: February 04, 2009, 07:49:31 PM »

I am having a problem getting a phone to connect to the base. The phone is over a wireless bridge. Although I understand this is not a supported function, I can communicate to the phone. It fails on the third phase of the phone connection wizard. The phase is labeled "connect to base unit". Could you please explain what is happening at this stage? What port is being used? All other IP communications seem to work including the firmware update and the phone does appear with the user name. I can also log into the web interface for the phone over the wireless bridge.

Thanks

One more thing you need to be cautious about is upgrading the firmware wirelessly. If the wireless connection fails for any reason while in the upgrade process, that may render the phone defective. Your setup is not currently supported given the connection method you have employed.

Could you please elaborate on what exactly is going on during the third phase of the phone connection? The wizard states that "connecting to base". Is this the first time that it uses SIP? Or is the entire process using SIP? As I stated in the original post I am aware that wireless is not supported but can you at least explain what is happening so that I might be able to track the process?

Thank You

Can you better define what you are using to "make" the wireless bridge and the set-up? I have a couple of wireless links using some Engenius EOC3610 ext radios on each link (running in client/AP mode); both links over several hundred feet in distance with several phones on each with great results. Took me awhile to get it going, but once done has been very solid.

I am trying to setup the phone system between two buildings using the EnGenius AP/Bridge and am coming up with the same problem as dhill (failing at the 3rd step)... What were the settings that you adjusted in the AP/Bridge?  Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Just an advice, you may want to setup the phones using a wired connection and then connect it to the wireless connection bridge (your implementation).

Thanks Ineblett, your advice regarding the Engenius AP/Bridge configuration worked great.  The system is working very reliably  ;D.  We truly appreciate your expert help.
