Here I go again...

How about this minor feature?

I have three routers on my little home network, a printer, and a DVR. It would be handy if the storage unit accepted syslogd messages and logged them into a predefined file/share. (This would also, theoretically allow the NAS's own syslog to be logged here too.)

This way one doesn't need to put a small computer on the network specifically for that purpose.

I see one downside, this will open the door to issues of log rotation (Yea, there's probably more.)

Actually be able to lower the bandwidth being used by the P2P subsystem.

There's an option for setting limits on bandwidth used for P2P traffic (in/out), maybe there could be two levels of settings.

We currently have:

Bandwidth Control:     Maximum Download Rate ###### (Kb/S)
                       Maximum Upload Rate   ###### (Kb/S)

Maybe we could have it configured so that clicking on a schedule "block" in the P2P calendar matrix will switch/rotate the entry through the settings "High" (the default) to "Low" to "Off".

Then the settings would allow a higher value for when we designate it as "off prime time" (or whatever you want to call it, night, etc.) and a more moderate value for busier times of the day and still being able to turn it off during peak usage times.

I suggest this as a change:

Bandwidth Control:
High:             Maximum Download Rate ###### (Kb/S)
                  Maximum Upload Rate   ###### (Kb/S)

Low:              Maximum Download Rate ###### (Kb/S)
                  Maximum Upload Rate   ###### (Kb/S)

Another operational adjustment for the powers that be to consider...

I'd like to have a share created when adding a user (of course with an option/checkbox to not create the share too).

If I add a user "j.schmoe", I'd like to have it fill in the name of the share "j.schmoe" in the screen for me.

User add:
               Username: [j.schmoe________________]
               Password: [xXxXxXxXxX______________]
       Confirm Password: [xXxXxXxXxX______________]

                Comment: [Joseph Schmoe___________]

Create Y/N: [X]   Share: [j.schmoe________________]

And, while we're at it, you have a user "Admin", there should be a share for that user.

Gawd! Stop me before I post again!!!!!!!!

To be considered. A setting for the cooling fan's response, "Quiet", "Normal", "Aggressive".

My NAS is in the basement where the ambient air is ~62F and the outside of the case is ~90F
I have the fan set for automatic, it could cool it more.
If set for Aggressive, it will increase the effort to keep the temp reading down, which might get noisy.
If set for Quiet, the temperature may climb more but the fans will be quieter. (i.e. "office setting")

Isn't this the same as Low, Medium, and High, which are universal standards? I think everyone knows that Low is quiet and High is loud.

Good point, I didn't make my statement clear enough.

I can have the fan on "Auto" (which goes low/med/high) to try and cool the system. What I'm suggesting is a setting for moving the temp thresholds.

Here's a VERY loose example. Given a temp reading, the fan speed, currently shown approximatly in the second column labeled "Speed".

TempSpeedQuietNormalAgressive
65OffOffOffOff
70OffOffOffOff
75OffOffOffLow
80LowOffLowLow
85LowLowLowLow
90LowLowLowMed
95MedLowMedMed
100MedLowMedMed
105MedMedMedHigh
110HighMedHighHigh
115HighHighHighHigh
120HighHighHighHigh

I'm suggesting adding a threshold adjustment, examples in the next three columns, as "Quiet", "Normal", and "Agressive" show how the fan would behave under these settings. I'm thinking that if I have the NAS (as I currently do) in a place where the noise doesn't matter, the agressive setting won't be a problem BUT, if I have the NAS with my TiVo and TV in the living room, I'd rather use the "Quiet" setting to keep the noise from becoming disturbing.

The settings I'm showing here are examples showing how it would behave, not the actual settings that should be used.

Yeah well here we go again...

I'd like to be able to get an idea of how much storage is being used by any share so...

How about a screen that shows the shares and how much storage each one of is consuming.

Also or instead, how about a screen showing the quota used by each user and/or group?

This is a bit of a mouthful for a one line addition.  If you can succinctly pare your entry down to a line or two and reference your message for more information, then I'll add it (along with a link to your detailed post).

This is a bit of a mouthful for a one line addition.
Hmmmm, "Brevity", I think I know what that is. ;)

Okay, one line approximation. How's one of these?
Permit selective temperature sensor sensitivity.
or
Allow variable temperature sensitivity.
or
Enable noise control based on temperature.

or
Allow variable temperature sensitivity.
or
