You're welcome. :)

A comment (read OPINION) about an item on the current wishlist:
General - Ability to rename NAS root volume names (i.e. rather than Volume_1)

I really think that this is not needed. As I showed in my note about putting more than one NAS on a "Mac network" (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=59071.msg234053#msg234053), the volume name "Volume_x" only really should matter to the NAS itself and should not be seen in the outside world.

I believe that the "Correction" of this situation would be to have a virgin machine show one share already defined "admin" (the share for the only existing user at the moment which will also address another item on the wishlist) and that should be the only one exported. Then *CLEAR* instructions need to be written and provided on how to create and export a share that is usable by ordinary users.

This item is on the wishlist for every ShareCenter model (I believe) and has been a subject of discussion for many years, dating back to the DNS-323/343. The contributors back then (and now) were acutely aware of the ability to rename mapped drive names, etc. but nonetheless wanted a way to rename the volume at the root level within the ShareCenter itself. I personally don't find the need to do this, as I have four ShareCenters and distinguish them by IP address, but other ShareCenter owners feel differently.

There is an option to "Import Users" from the account managemnt page.

It wasn't until after I decided to go into it that I was able to find out how to do this.
It gives you a sample file that you can then use to import this information.

*GREAT* Now, how about a button to EXPORT the users in that format? :)

I think I'd want the same with shares too.

This goes towards my request that there be an option to import only selective parts of a configuration.

I'm going to suggest that the wishlist entry that reads:
Quote
Configuration Settings - Option to export user information to a separate file (i.e. the DNS-325 has an "Import" function in "Account Management" with no means of creating an "import" file) and similar option for importing/exporting shares
be removed. The reason is that there's more to the feature than just that correction. I'm going to create an entry in the observations topic to discuss this.

I think it qualifies as a bug and as such, the two items might conflict and cause misunderstanding.

How about this modification:

Configuration Settings - Option to export user information to a separate file (i.e. the DNS-325 has an "Import" function in "Account Management" with no means of creating an "import" file) and similar option for importing/exporting shares. Create a robust import file format (current template seems bug-laden) with support for selective inclusion of specific user/share attributes for export

When saving configuration files, currently they're named something simple but not useful.

I'd suggest that the files be named:
  DNSNAME-config-YYYYMMDD-hhmmss.tar.gz

My machine, called "HOMENAS" would, as backed up in March will produce a file named:
  HOMENAS-config-20140322-161244.tar.gz

There's two important points to the way this is done. The file as saved *NOW* is a tar'ed gzip'd file but does not have the name (which it really should) so the '.tar.gz' part is a bug.

The Date/Time stamp is good business the name of the device is also good practice.

Are you referring to the general configuration settings file now?

@Her_Kitty_Daddy  - thoughts for this modification?  :-\  ???
I addressed it over in http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=54848.msg236095#msg236095

The crux of it is, the information needed for this sort of thing is already saved in the configuration file so instead of coming up with a second export/import process (read "Error ****e" & redundant) it would be better if the import process for a configuation file (which already exists) could allow for some selectivity in restoration.

If designing it I would have the restore screen provide a list of checkboxes that will be restored (all on by default) and you can click off the things you don't want overwritten.

A sparkling example of this would be if you wanted to set up a second NAS, you don't want to overwrite the new networking information with the same information in the already running unit.

I think we're on the same page now. You're looking for the equivalent of the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard that was included in Windows XP, with check boxes for shares, NW configurations, etc.
