Multiple DNS-323 attached to my router
« on: September 15, 2011, 07:36:24 AM »

I have had a DNS-323 for about three years.  It is working
fine.  I decided to purchase a second DNS-323 to provide 100%
backup.  Both have two 500GB drives installed in RAID 1
configuration.  Both have static IP addresses.  The fourth
octet on one is 50 and the other is 55.  They are connected to
my DIR-655 router.  I used the D-Link Easy Search Utility to
assign drive letters.  When ever I assign a drive letter to one
DNS-323, the utility assigns the same drive letter to the other.
Only the first one assigned is visible to my Windows XP
system and I cannot copy files from one NAS to the other.
Both are at 1.09 firmware.

D-Link support had me try a hard reset to each followed by a
power down and back up.  After the reset the DNS-323 is
assigned an IP address from the router.  I can then give each
NAS its own drive letter.  I would like to keep using static IP
addresses for each NAS.  Is that not possible or am I doing
something else wrong in the configuration?

I have 3 DNS323 all on a DIR655 as well. No issues. Make sure that along with unique IP addresses which you already have, that you also assign unique hostnames to the units.

Worst case if you still have problems, use the IP address to map the drive letters. No need to use the search utility at all.

The "Easy Search" Utility is not required to map the DNS-323. As suggested you should be able to manually map the two DNS-323s.

Right Click "My Computer" and select "Map Network Drive"
Select an unused drive letter
Enter \\DNS323_IP_ADDRESS\Volume_1

Thanks for your help.  I assigned different Device Names to the DNS-323s and am now able to assign different drive letters to them.  I will add your comments to my DNS-323 User Guide.
